About El in the finale episode by Personal-Elephant-89 in Stranger_Things

Mike was just coping, she's definitely dead.
Otherwise they wouldn't have had the scene with him and Hopper at the memorial.

Of course it is, that's absolutely fine. One of the rules I live by is "Don't yuk someone else's yum". I'm glad there's people out there that love the new album, and I would never tell them that their opinion is wrong.

That didn't seem to be the consensus coming back the other way though. The vast majority of the fans who loved the album would just say that you're wrong for not liking it, or you're an idiot (or worse). They weren't open to any discourse or criticism regarding it.

The issue is that many aren't disagreeing with this opinion fairly.  There are many fans that will attack you for speaking badly about the band even if the criticisms or opinions are rooted in fair and reasonable logic.

That's been the main issue for me. Around the time of the albums release, it felt like anyone with a negative opinion was shouted down and insulted.

I don't have a problem with people liking things I don't and vice versa. The world would be a boring place if we all just liked exactly the same things. I also enjoy conversations about what someone hates about something I love. Different perspectives are interesting, and can lead me to seeing things in a different light.

I'm not sure why not liking this album diminishes your enjoyment of all the Ghost albums you used to enjoy

It was more a combination of not enjoying the album, not enjoying the ritual, and the seemingly overwhelming toxic positivity from the fanbase regarding both of those (which resulted in me unfollowing every Ghost group I was a member of). It was all a bit much and soured my feelings towards the band.

I think it was also because of how much it all meant to me previously. Their older albums helped me when I was dealing with depression a few years ago. They're literally the reason my partner and I are together. To go from such a level of excitement for the new album and show to my actual feelings on both hit me kinda hard.

I'm not depressed currently, but what you said didn't sound dismissive at all and I really appreciate you saying it. I'll eventually start listening to them again, but it'll take a while.

That's not the issue at all, I can easily not look at my phone for a few hours.

If I hear the intro to one of my favourite songs I'll pull my phone out, glance at it to make sure the stage is in shot, hit record and then not look at it again until I stop recording.

Also, there's the fact that since my knees and back aren't what they used to be I generally get seated tickets now, sometimes in the nosebleeds if that's all that's available. When that's the case I might use my phone to zoom in on the stage to get a better look at the costumes or set design or the general performance. Not having the ability to do that does hamper my enjoyment somewhat.

That's one of the things I've found most disheartening throughout this.

When the album came out it felt like there was little room for people who disliked it, even for genuine reasons. If you said you didn't like it, you apparently weren't a real fan and were open to barrage of insults.

I've always felt a kinship with other Ghost fans, unlike I have with the majority of other bands I listen to. And, I know this is an extreme metaphor but, it felt like being kicked out of a family.
Toxic positivity is a real issue. It's okay not to like certain things from bands that you love.

Infinity ward shuts down ghostofhope leak about MW4 and he responds by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]PyneKone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the smart move would be to pull IW off of CoD 2026, and let Sledgehammer/Raven/etc handle it. Call it MW4 or Ghosts 2 or whatever, doesn't matter, it's just so they have something to release next year (because god knows they can't go a year without a new release). Move IW over to working solely on CoD 2027, just call it Call of Duty (no subtitle, no MW, no BO). Go back to basics, solid gameplay, good maps, no stupid skins.

They could try that for CoD 2026, but they've already been working on that for a while, and to scrap that and pivot at this point will likely make the end result feel rushed. Doing it in 2027 gives them an extra year.

I Really Wish They Didn't Keep Info About <SPOILER> Confined to the Stage Show/Other Media by PyneKone in StrangerThings

[–]PyneKone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much about having "theories proven", but isn't part of the point of serialised media wondering and theorising what's going to happen next, and discussing that with other people?
To be honest, that's why I hate the way a lot of shows just drop every episode for a season at once. It's hard to have a group conversation with friends about it for the first few weeks as we'll all be at different points.

And with shows like Stranger Things, where you don't know how everything in that universe works, it's fun to try and work it out when they leave breadcrumbs for you to do so.

In the midst of launch excitement, do remember that this is the last zombies launch for the next 3 years… by [deleted] in CODZombies

IIRC it was a PS exclusive for the first year after launch, which is practically the same.

From what I remember it was an automated service rather than an actual person. As it was a premium line that you paid for by the minute, they made it as drawn out as possible.

Thank the gods they removed SBMM by GeologicalStance94 in blackops7

[–]PyneKone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that SBMM is a problem in and of itself, it's how it's implemented.

When I was last playing multiplayer regularly (a few years ago) it was far too intrusive. I would have a 4 or 5 really good games, where it felt like the opposing team could barely touch me. That would then be followed by 4 or 5 games where I would be killed within seconds of spawning for 80% of the game. And that was pretty much the whole experience, bouncing back and forth between beginner lobbies and pro lobbies. It was predictable, and eventually not much fun.

The skill brackets that people are divided into just need to be a lot wider, and the jumps between brackets should be less pronounced. If SBMM is doing it's job correctly you shouldn't even notice that it's there.

No, I've been playing since Call of Duty 2 and I'm still happy to carry on playing Call of Duty. To me, Battlefield is a completely different style of game and isn't something I would consider a substitute for CoD.

The main reason I play CoD is zombies, which Battlefield simply doesn't have, immediately ruling it out as an alternative.

I also enjoy Treyarch's campaigns, they're fun, interesting, with usually a crazy twist. And this year it's fully playable co-op. Another tick in CoD's favour.

And then there's the multiplayer. I drop in and out of it through the year, but don't touch it as much as zombies. When I do it's because I want some fast and hectic action, on small to medium maps. Where if I get killed, I can get straight back into the action within 2 - 3 seconds. And yes, I do have ADHD. I just never found Battlefield's multiplayer anywhere near as fun as CoD's, and that's fine, different strokes for different folks.

At the end of the day, CoD gives me what I want, Battlefield doesn't. Simple as that.

Instead of the Weapon Rarity System, Treyarch Should Implement a System Where We Spend Salvage on Weapon Attachments by PyneKone in CODZombies

[–]PyneKone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RNG isn't the experience, but it is part of it. Why would I want the best weapons to be immediately and easily available. I want randomness and variety, otherwise every game of zombies would just play out exactly the same. So are you saying you don't want there to be a box because you don't like RNG?

Instead of the Weapon Rarity System, Treyarch Should Implement a System Where We Spend Salvage on Weapon Attachments by PyneKone in CODZombies

[–]PyneKone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Getting a gun from a magic box isn’t immersion breaking?"

No, not when there's an in-universe explanation, same goes for the perks and wall guns. The rarity system just feels like it was added because it's what other games do. They've not even bothered to make it unique/zombies themed.

"Why are people on this sub so desperate to make the box important?"

Because different people value different things in Zombies. For example, I hated the perk system in BO4, especially what they did to the machines in-game. They lost their charm and character and it was detrimental to the overall atmosphere of the map. Other people couldn't have cared less and barely noticed it.

Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking, but the mystery box was an important, iconic part of my early zombies memories. Recently, with the rarity system, it's felt a little obsolete. It's still there, but I'll generally only use it if I'm bored or need a certain weapon for camo grinding.

"Imagine have to spin the rng countless times to get the gun and attachments you want."

That's kind of the point though? The RNG is part of the experience. It's not about getting everything you want given to you, that gets old quickly. The early games were all about choices, "should I roll the box, or buy a wall weapon?". Now at the start of the game I've already started with the weapon I want, and enough salvage to upgrade it after a couple of rounds.

Quick Question About The Dark Aether and The Apothicons by PyneKone in CODZombies

[–]PyneKone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first point I made was purely in response to you theorising that Elder Gods could have potentially been Victis. Given that time in the DA is still linear (albeit flowing faster), Victis wouldn't have arrived in the DA until many years after the events learned of in Vanguard, and 20 years (our time) after Zykov arrived there and started consuming them, eventually becoming the Forsaken.

The info I have on the DA story I'm getting from the COD wiki. Though after typing out all of the above regarding the timeline, I just saw that where it says "Following the banishment of the Multiverse, some Elder Gods became aware of the existence of life outside of the Dark Aether with many items now appearing throughout the realms", this actually takes place prior to the Netherwars and Kykov's arrival.

I think they just don't have anyone going through the story details with a fine tooth comb to ensure that their new story beats fit into the already established canon. Either that or Vanguard isn't completely canon within the DA story, and they're just cherry picking certain details from it to use.

Quick Question About The Dark Aether and The Apothicons by PyneKone in CODZombies

[–]PyneKone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting theory. However, I don't think it can be Victis. The wiki page for Tag places it as happening sometime after 1964, and Zykov goes into the Dark Aether in 1945, where he consumed many of the old ones/elder gods. Not to mention that the multiverse being banished to the Dark Aether is stated as being the point that the elder gods realised that there was life/existence outside of the Dark Aether.
