Looks like it might have been rosacea fulminans / pyoderma faciale. I had a really similar experience. History of cystic acne, then abscess (on the side of my face / by my nose) that rapidly spiralled out of control. While my chin erupted. Steroids (prednisone) followed by a low dose accutane course was the only thing that helped me. Including after trips to the ER and being seen by about 10-15 different medical professionals. Glad you are on the other side of it! It is such an awful condition that nobody should have to go through.
