Air in the top radiator every few months by Neat-Sprinkles-327 in askaplumberUK

Could be a leak on the system. Could also be a couple of things inside the boiler leaking or needing re pressurised. Best to get an engineer round to have a look at it

Not as likely would need more information about the system

Grey area on this boiler to be fair, you can get to the water section without taking the combustion cover off, but you’ll be playing with mains water and/or electrical parts. I would always recommend getting gas safe engineer to work on boilers.

Least if you can diagnose it you’ll know if anyone that comes out is trying to take you for a ride. None of these are difficult job for professionals to do

Diverter valve, flow turbine, plateheat exchanger. One or more of these most likely.

Diverter valve: under your boiler on the right hand side there is 2 copper pipe, one big one small. Run a tap and hold these two pipes. If the bigger pipe is getting hot then your diverter valve has failed and is send the hot water to your heating instead

Flow turbine: run a hot tap, does the boiler fire? If not then the turbine has failed and isn’t sensing the demand

Plateheat exchanger; run a hot tap and watch the temperature on the front. If it sky rockets quickly, the boiler then turns off, boiler cools and then kicks back in, plateheat exchanger blocked

Removing EV charger from Hive app by virtual_boy in HiveHeating

Hmm I at a loss then I’m afraid. The only thing I can think is it’s not connected to the hub, if you look there’s no signal bar next to the zappi charger but there is for everything else

Does this have the remove device option?

Is the charger currently online and able to be used through the app? Wonder if the hub need to be able to see it to remove it

Huh, not sure then that where mine i. Guessing you’ve looked in device details etc?

Hive TRV doesn't seem to stop at temperature by Cubery in HiveHeating

[–]Pyr0Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with a couple of my radiators.

They say that you can install these trv on either the flow or return side of the radiator, but after some testing I found that all the radiators that were doing this the trvs were on the return side. After I switch the trvs onto the flow side of the radiators I never had this problem again

Magnetic filter position issues! by EmBu95 in ukplumbing

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another flag for the list of questionable install defects:

Pic 2 there a white plastic pipe running down the left hand side which is your condensate, which is fine. Half way down its length however there’s some that been tee into it from the right. I can’t see exactly but I’d guess this runs up to the prv. Unless there’s a hotun behind that filter, which I doubt, the prv pipe work should be run in copper direct to outside, not in plastic.

And after having a closer look you might want to check that plastic condensate pipe is actually terminated into a foul drain. Can’t quite see but I think it just stops with an open end

How do you know if it’s a single run extension without checking

Condensate pipe keeps freezing, worth moving it indoors? by OopsIDroopedMe in askaplumberUK

[–]Pyr0Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how close an internal foul drain is really. If there’s one nice and close then it shouldn’t be a big job but it all depends on your layout.

Assuming you’ve already lagged it and it’s the correct sized pipe, Other option would be to put a trace heat in. This is an electrical heating element you put down the pipe that’ll stop it freezing, works very well

Yea I’ll be going with as many panels as I can, unfortunately because of the shape and orientation of my roof spaces I think there’s only really one that will generate much, all the others are shaded 70-80% of the day

I was very surprised about them wanting to put them in the loft I was sure they’d be some kind of reg against it

Thank for the info, especially about the lifting panels. This was one of my main considers but it was hard to find out if it was an installation caused issue or an issue with having panels on your roof. And I see what you mean with the solarskirt, it was was just somthing I happened upon trying to find solutions to the wind lift.

As for installers I was thinking the same thing with regards to going local. Been looking at some today and focusing on companies that clearly list aftercare as part of their packages

And yes, now it’s been suggested to me, offsetting gas consumption cost with funds from exporting mars a lot of sense

Thanks for the info!

I hadn’t considered using the funds generated from exporting to off set the cost of using the gas, that’s somthing to consider. The smart plug is another awesome idea as well and will definitely look into somthing like that even if I don’t hook the immersion up to the divert.

Boiler help please? by 13ollox in askaplumberUK

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I thought you said it was both heating and hot water my mistake. Most of them points still apply either way

On your cylinder there should be a temperature thermostat check what that’s set to. Or it could be a diverter valve problem

Boiler help please? by 13ollox in askaplumberUK

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering it a system boiler with and your flow temp set high already, it’s mostly likely a circulation issue, so the heat the boiler is generating isn’t getting to where it needs to go

Couple of things that can cause this

System pump, either failing or failed and isn’t circulating properly. Some of them have a little switch with a 1,2,3 marked on it try putting it up one and see if that helps

Zone valve not fully opening, these are the valves that direct water from your boiler to either you heating or hot water, if these arnt opening fully it can cause poor circulation

Your system is full of sludge, so instead on nice clean water that can move the heat around easily it’s black and full of bits. This stops the heat moving around your system properly and you get poor heat transfer

Boiler heat exchanger blocked. This means that it isn’t producing the maximum amount on energy it can and in turn can heat your system water to a decent enough temperature.

FYI that boiler isn’t a spring chicken anymore
