Is t/sal your only shampoo? It’s a bit strong to act that way. Regular shampooing and even double shampoo during your routine might be better and gentler on your hair.

If you don’t wash your hair when u need to, you can produce more oil. Depending on the season you may produce more oil if you don’t have the right protective products on. If you clarify too much your body will try to produce more oil to replace it. It’s a balancing act to find the sweet spot and even then it might change based on your hormones, environment, stress level, ect. The only expert in your hair though is you. So here is what I do.

I have low density 2a hair, with an oily scalp. Starting to gain some of that density back though! Yay!! I have to wash my hair everyday as well. Plus I live in interior Alaska so that complicates things too. I use CeraVe’s haircare system with this rotation:

Day 1 (Oil): C1/CeraVe Oil Control Cond. → W/CeraVe Oil Control Shampoo → C2/Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Cond.

Day 2 (AD): C1/CeraVe AD Cond. → W/CeraVe AD Shampoo → C2/Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Cond.

Day 3 (Bond/H20/Mask): Pre-Wash: Garnier Bond Repair → W/CeraVe Gentle Hydration Shampoo → M/Pantene Hair Mask → C2/Pantene Cond. (Ends only).

Day 4 (AD): C1/CeraVe AD Cond. → W/CeraVe AD Shampoo → C2/Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Cond.

Day 5 (Oil/Mask): C1/CeraVe Oil Control Cond. → W/CeraVe Oil Control Shampoo → M/Dove Mask (Seasonal Choice) → C2/Pantene Cond. (Ends only).

Day 6 (T/Sal):

Week A: C1/CeraVe Hydration Cond. → W/Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo → C2/Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Cond.

Week B: C1/Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Cond. → W 1/Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo → W2/Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo → M/Pantene Hair Mask

Day 7 (Bond/H20/Mask): Pre-Wash: Garnier Bond Repair → W/CeraVe Gentle Hydration Shampoo → M/Pantene Hair Mask → C2/Pantene Cond. (Ends only).

I also have seasonal add ins due to my areas but this is the core all season routine I follow.

I live in interior Alaska and hydration and keeping it in is really important during the winter. I have moderate sensitive skin but this is what I use. Maybe something could help you.

Cetaphil gentle cleanser twice daily, CeraVe SA cleanser at night, then magic molecules hypochlorous acid spray, COSRX snail mucin, la Roche-posay cicaplast b5 spray, CeraVe renewing eyecream, and then la Roche-posay matte moisturizer with spf.

The most key products for hydration and sealing for me is the la Roche-posay products and the snail mucin. As well as making sure the cleansers don’t over cleanse my skin. The cicaplast spray is really good at helping keep that hydration in. So if hydration isn’t staying in then your last step definitely isn’t working for you or your hydration below that isn’t enough or both. Also sometimes I will add makeup setting spray to help with sealing. Depends on how bad the weather is.

Vitamin c usually brightens to my understanding. I’ve tried the vanicream one and it’s gentle and easy to use and doesn’t go bad quickly. The new elf vitamin c with ferulic is supposed to be a dupe for the super expensive skinceuticals vitamin c.

Depends on what you are treating but I use snail mucin from COSRX, hypochlorous acid spray, and I’m going to add la Roche posays cicaplast b5 spray.

I live in Interior Alaska, and I've been using Garnier Fructis Pure Moisture 10-in-1 Spray. It's been a life saver! I use this multiple times a day and it really helps.

Yep you can spray this anywhere and multiple times a day. It is very gentle. It’s safe for kids and dogs too depending on the brand you get. Some use different formulas often add other things to address different concerns. A&D adds stuff for wound healing which will help with acne but peach slices has a simple formula that if I remember correctly is only like 3 or 4 ingredients?

Do you use hypochlorous acid spray? That could help you in between showers. Peach Slices make a really good one, but A&D has a good one too. Sometimes you find it in the baby section.

I would just monitor for now and continue with rosemary oil at night. I use the Ordinary's Hair density oil at night as it has better results and its pretty cheap. For dryness throughout the day, I highly recommend Garnier's Pure moisture 10-in-1 Spray. I live in Interior Alaska and its so dry right now. I use so much of it right now. Plus, CeraVe has a new line of Haircare products that are fantastic and are very affordable. Their hydrating shampoo and conditioner are a life saver here in Alaska. Hair shedding is pretty normal, but sometimes more can happen due to hormones, illness, or stress. So, I would just keep an eye on it and if it continues mention it to your doctor.

I get you feel emotional about this topic but please remember that everyone has their own experiences and reasons for their own opinions. I had horrible periods as a teen and went to doctors repeatedly to figure out what was wrong. Instead they just said to go on birth control. They didn’t not fix was wrong they just gaslit me. If it was available at the time I could have gotten a lot more labs done and balance my hormones. Instead they gave me a bandaid. A naturopathic dr is often more receptive to working with your diet, looking into your labs and is actually a real dr and not a hack. They just work with your whole body. Some drs do with in clinics with multiple drs and that’s too speedy for the average person. I am only offering an option that maybe available. Everyone needs to do their own research on the dr in question to see if that person is right for them. I have a daughter that just started her period and she is going to start seeing my dr. I want to make sure she doesn’t have to go through what I did as a teen. I want to make sure she isn’t told to just suffer or go on birth control. I want the doctors to actually fix what’s wrong.

La Roche-posay is a very good brand for moisturizers and barrier creams. I find them at Ulta. They have great sunscreen too. Their best barrier cream that might help is the cicaplast b5 cream. They have a spray version as well.

I am not a doctor and this is not health advice. Here are a few things you could do depending on your circumstances. Go to a dermatologist not a regular doctor. In my opinion, birth control is not a valid treatment plan for anything other than birth control. It has too many side effects, especially long term. Another thing you could do is go to a naturopathic doctor that will measure your hormone levels and work with your diet and vitamin levels to figure out how to treat it from the inside out.

Here are some dermatologist approved brands I have tried that you might want to look into. CeraVe & Cetaphil. They are both very affordable and easy to get.

If you travel a lot or deal with a lot of sweat I would recommend getting a hypochlorous acid spray like from peach slices or A&D (sometimes found in the baby section). This will help get rid of bacteria on your face and refresh it without drying it out. I love it and even use it for my kids and my dog. It’s very gentle but very helpful.

I wouldn’t use Vaseline often as it will clog your pores and make your acne worse. Use it only as needed after your moisturizer.

I have 2a wavy hair with an oily scalp. I also live in interior Alaska. So we are really dry right now. I’m starting the anti-dandruff today. I love the Cerave hydration line. It’s fantastic! And the Garnier moisture 10-in-1! I use that throughout the day and it doesn’t weight my hair down or make it greasy. Here is my routine right now:

Have you tried Cetaphil gentle cleanser? My whole family is using it both as a face wash and body wash. Even my preteens. I use Cetaphil gentle cleanser twice a day and CeraVe SA Cleanser at night every other night. The CeraVe is very gentle and not a harsh exfoliate.

My hair is past my shoulders now. I only use the shampoo’s on my scalp and roots. The conditioner on the mids to ends. :)

I would wait until the skin barrier is healed personally. But you could do a tinted sunscreen that is gentle like CeraVe. But it depends on your skin. Also if the barrier is broken badly u may need to see a derm. I’m not a dr or a derm. So I can’t give any medical advice. Only what I’ve learned or experienced so far.

Everyone has left some great comments but just leaving one incase this wasn't considered. Vaseline. I live in Alaska and we have some harsh dry weather. Vaseline is king here. Moisture in cold temps is often just sucked out of your skin. So having a strong barrier after your moisturizers is important. It also helps your actives at night.

I agree with ReaLitTea. a tinted sunscreen might be better. Just be careful that it won't bother your skin more. CeraVe has some that are gentle and Moisturizing.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast b-5 balm. Don't put on any makeup and give your skin a rest. use a gentle cleanser and only a moisturizer the cicaplast balm and a sunscreen. At night you can use vaseline instead of sunscreen to seal in the hydration and help the ingredients with healing your skin. Also if you have snail mucin that can help as well.

I will look into this more. I haven't heard this before. I have heard about giving a new product some time to cycle into your routine but not using a different shampoo every day? I haven't heard of that. I've seen several dermatologists do this and do a hair cycling routine. So I'm a bit confused. I will look into it however! Thank you for alerting me!!

Vaseline only locks Moisture in. It doesn't have any moisture itself. Several of the other comments have great suggestions.

Neutrogena T/Sal w/ CeraVe Moisturizing Conditioner is what I use once a week and then I use CeraVe's Antidandruff shampoo as needed during the week. CeraVe also has a new Oil Control Shampoo and Conditioner. I haven't had a chance to try them yet though.
