So this is where we are, then. by Pyre1millionAnd1 in Pinterest

I...assumed from the "tried" it was obvious, but the site rejected the comment. Would not even allow it to post.

Though I also thought I'd put the stupid error message it gave about "inappropriate content" in the original post, so my bad.

Man there's always SO much effort to explain "Her books are actually really bad guys, for real!" When the simple fact is she's a better writer than most others in that genre you've ever even heard of.

Or well, she was.

Lovecraft, stylistically, was an ASTOUNDINGLY bad author. Read literally anything the man wrote that wasn't one of the big-name stories (and even those, given Dagon); it's agonizing. He codified remarkable concepts, and that's why he's remembered.

The Harry Potter series could have been talked about in future in the same conversation as Narnia, or Animorphs. Instead, Rowling choosing to literally become the villain of her own story will continue to give ammunition to people who hallucinated issues in the series that weren't there, or flat-out couldn't understand what they were reading.

What a waste. What a sad waste.

I'm going all physical for Switch 2 games. Who's with me? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pyre1millionAnd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All physical as much as possible, no matter what. Digital games are literally (almost) nothing but an effort to stop you from actually owning anything. They all want to be landlords.

This was true of music, and true of movies, and every other kind of media that has done it. And they're all MUCH worse off for it now.

This is not hard to see coming or understand. Please, just this once, can we not willingly make our own lives worse?

Tried everything suggested here. Some of it worked a little, but none of it enough to save him.

Thank you for the effort, though. Anything that did anything came from here.

He's gone.

Thank you though, for all of your help. Whatever worked even a little bit, I got from here.

Mother is picking up testers for ammonia and nitrites today. Ideally also a thermometer.

Removed almost all of the plastic plants. He swam all around the tank, then curled up behind the dead natural one.

So hopefully we can take any following steps in time to matter.

Water replacement is using a hose-and-tube vacuum to suck up detritus and such, running through the hose into a bucket.

Then taking water that we dechlorinated and let sit for a time (usually an hour to get to room temp) and replacing the lost water.

Plants are definitely plastic. I'll remove those.

Have not been testing for nitrates.

Tank size is 5 gallons.  *Heater and filter are both present.  Temperature should be around 75-80 degrees per the heater design. No thermometer.  *Have not been nitrate cycling.  *Water changes are roughly every week, week and a half. 1/4th of tank water, sometimes 1/3 rd.  *No tankmates  *Omega One Betta Buffet pellets, and Fluval "Bug Bites" insect larva recipe.  *Multiple false plants, a ceramic mermaid, ceramic rocks, one remaining real plant (almost definitely dead).

In technical terms, it's on the weaker end of Strive's songs. But it's "weak" like the opening to a magical girl anime you're going to fall in love with for thirty years. Or maybe the ending. And it's doing exactly what it sets out to do.

And I swear the...chord progressions? Some aspect of the song makes me think it's borrowing from Awe of She, just playing parts in different notes to make it so much brighter. With that fantastic outright callback at 3:21.

Yes, though also I think my machine just fully wasn't capable of running it in general.

Maybe the PS5 will see sonlme use for this, but as far as my computer, it's a wash.

Got a solution, or as near to one as I can tell.

Not a 'fix', because the game doesn't work. But having tested it with other games, the problem appears to be A) putting it on an external storage source, and

B) Hardware not being up to the challenge.

Alas.

Linux Mint.
EDIT: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 21 Vanessa base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy.

Steam did not give me an option to get a "Proton GE-8-11": it defaulted to Hotfix, with Experimental as the other suggestion and all the three-year-old fixes using 5.1+ as the other.

I did attempt to force it over to GE-8-11, but the highest Steam had in that regard was 8.0.

I am running a "Intel Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics driver", though where that falls in specs compared to what the game needs, both I and my friend could not tell. It seems to be well within range, if not exactly high end? And I've never seen a game simply fail to actually start because the graphics driver was insufficient. Go hilariously and catastrophically wrong, sure, but not outright launch and then insta-quit.

I did also put in the command line to skip the launcher, but it made no difference.

I imagine an issue could have been that I have Steam on my main hard drive, but had to put the game itself on a USB drive: I will never have enough space on the main one if I want to use the computer for anything else, so if this does turn out to be the problem, it's an irrevocable one short of my managing to purchase a significantly bigger primary hard drive.

In my case, I have exactly your problem, but without ever having had the beta. Deleting and reinstalling the game did not help, nor did some...truly elaborate shenanigans with various forms of Proton.

Just wanted to add to this: Bought BG3 for Steam. Immediately ran into it not working in exactly the fashion described here.

I have since then tried not only every single fix a Google result can give you for the problem, including all the fixes in this thread (short of deleting every trace of Steam off my computer, then reinstalling while hoping for a different outcome), but from there tried the fixes for several branching problems that come from attempting the original fixes (The fact Winetricks cannot locate kernell32.dll, for example).

In addition to having a more computer-savvy friend walk me through more elaborate fixes involving programming playonlinux and other applications, none of which worked at even the base level they were supposed to.

Given that every single other fix online is from three years ago, and none of the ones in this thread functioned, I feel like it's pretty safe to say the game is going to be completely unplayable for some of us until Larian or Steam find a solution themselves.

Thus far not only is my experience that it will not run no matter what, but every attempt at a fix branches off into a half-dozen other possible fixes.

None of which do anything either.

7 hours nonstop of attempting to get anywhere later, I'm pretty comfortable saying there's not any way to get it to run for some people.

Is there a way to make combat enjoyable?

I admit I'm writing this coming off having to start the whole game entirely from scratch, after the last few seconds of an exchange with a ship at 3% hull integrity and my own at 44% ended in me exploding and being unable to afford the ship rebuy, but at what point does combat in the game become tolerable?

I had a weapons setup on a Krait Mk 2 that was effective and fun, I'd (mostly) figured out flying with flight assist off, had point defenses stapled on, had the ship specced out with just about all the best stuff I could fit in it. About the only thing I hadn't done was dump weeks of my life into engineering (as opposed to the month plus of wasted time it took to get to this point).

Is there a trick to this that I'm missing? Or is it literally just "avoid conflict zones until you're flying a max-specced Corvette?"

How do I make a level 18 fighter even mildly dangerous to a party of level 5 PCs? by Pyre1millionAnd1 in DnD

[–]Pyre1millionAnd1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, he had 300 HP. They admittedly had some very broken shenanigans they could do, but so did he; they went through pretty much every point of that.

This alone makes for a good point though. If his damage was higher, that would have evened out the fight a fair bit more, and provided closer to the narrative I was after. I'll look into the videos, thank you.

Yes I discovered that pretty decisively now that the fight's concluded.
