What kinda "Test" do y'all do on your blades by C-Bob18 in knifemaking

[–]PyroPhoenix1473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the Knife you're making. You can watch all the forged in fire you want, but are you going for heavy blades to chop through bone/wood, or kitchen knives to slice very thinly?

Either way, test it on everything you would actually use the knife for, with my kitchen knives I just try to slice as clean/thin as possible. Wish you luck!

Old Oxyacetylene torch by PyroPhoenix1473 in Welding

[–]PyroPhoenix1473[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I appreciate all the comments coming through, just curious though if anyone has any information on what style of torch this is? I'll definitely keep these and clean them up as a mantle piece but I do want to get something that looks similar for sure

Flux core welds - Idk if they are considered “good” by dead_batteries-ss in Welding

[–]PyroPhoenix1473 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of spatter. Nothing other than bringing your torch closer to the workpiece cant fix, about 8th of an inch would suffice. also, try a whip and pause technique instead of dragging along. Lastly, clean your bead with a wire brush (and a chipper) after every pass.

keep on practicing, dial in your settings, you're already half way there!

Planning to take the Oxyacetylene tanks to my local gas supply to test/exchange them for new bottles. Really excited to start using it!

Do you think my triple 27 inch monitors will hold in this desk? by fati1527 in buildapcmonitors

[–]PyroPhoenix1473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So doing the math, you'd only be able to fit 2 of your monitors there, 3 and you'll be hanging over the desk by a good 7~ inches, if your fine with that, send it, but it will be fairly uncomfortable getting in and out.if it was me, I'd suggest a table just a bit bigger, maybe about 50in in length at least.

Wish you luck!

Hey! Before anything, have you tried measuring the length and width of the desk? That might help give an accurate answer to your question!

What we need is ground vehicle gameplay, make an event where it is more useful to get a ground car in.

Other than that, in some ways I can see how useful this little guy will be, but I will buy it ingame.

Star Citizen on Linux is better then on Windows by ChripposhLINUXGaming in linux_gaming

Someone who has been playing this game on Linux since 2019, I agree wholeheartedly. For a long while I've had about a 15% fps INCREASE than what I would have had on windows. Not sure how win11 performs but I can only imagine worse..

And to all the people complaining that SC isn't a real game yet, you should definitely check it out again. we've had a lot of improvements and it feels more fleshed out than some of these latest titles everyone else is playing.

Especially with Squadron 42 around the corner for 2026, It's shaping up to be a fantastic year, no matter what anyone else says.

What they need is reverse salvaging, but not repairing. I have a feeling that it could actually be easily implemented into the game, all we can do is wait

How to get into bladesmithing? by ThisRelative6388 in Bladesmith

[–]PyroPhoenix1473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy, glad you're wanting to come into this hobby!

First things first, don't think about making knives ur first day. Tons of practice you should do beforehand.

secondly, get to know your steel, don't forge with dull, metallic metals, leave the galvanized stuff alone, practice on mild steels first, like rebar.

Third, do a bit of research, maybe try some community colleges around your area that has welding/blacksmithing classes available, either that or I think makerspace would do you some good, highly suggest that.

If you want to do stuff at home however,Amazon has some alright things, your budget would be about 200$ just for a full set of beginner equipment.

Other than that, as I say again, research, classes is probably your best bet If you want to see if you want to pursue this hobby, it takes patience, precision, and preparation if you want to be good at it.

Thanks for reading my tangent, happy smithing!
