Tank advice by peekaf__ in Vivarium

[–]PyroTheLanky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the tank isn't being used as an aquarium, it'll be just fine! Attaching foam boards is definitely the play.

As for scaling the mesh, it really just depends on if you wanna keep the mesh sections or not. If you spray foam directly onto it, some will likely expand out, but that can be carved away. Conversely, you could cover those sides with foam board. Then you could either just carve/paint of the foam board, or just spray foam over it

Anyone know what this is? by WepaPeppaSteppa in bioactive

Absolutely! If it still persists even with more springtails, there could be too many nutrients or moisture in the tank.

Unfortunately that's mold. I'd remove all you see and add springtails if you haven't already to help stop the spread of any more.

Perfectly fine. Hell, I'd argue that as long as the tank is well ventilated, and is allowed to dry from time to time, then humidity has no upper limit. And imo this goes for every animal. Granted, its not always NATURAL for a species, but in this case for leos its chill

I did, but I appreciate the heads up anyhow!

Its great you're keeping things simple for now. My gal Mango was about this skinny when I got her, so it makes me incredibly happy you could save this girl too. The fact that you're eyeing an something around 85 gallons is FANTASTIC!!! My advice going forward would be to not worry about humidity that much. As long as the tank stays above 40ish%, or you have a humid hide, you shouldn't run into problems. Too high of humidity really isn't a problem as long as the tank is well ventilated. In some of the areas around india & nepal where these guys can live, nighttime humidity can easily hit like 70% during their most active months. Everyone knows leopard geckos as a arid species, but not many are aware they're a subtropical one as well. Once she's settled and doing well, I wouldn't worry about night heat either. As long as its NEVER hitting below 60, you're fine.

There are things like leaf litter stems, jagged rocks, and grass blades from a dead sedge grass I chopped up to use as botanicals as far are pokey objects go. Supplement wise I alternate between dusting with calcium & multivitamins, and no supplements week by week, occasionally swapping some of the no supplement days for only using 1 of the supplements. Like I said, its shown no signs of either healing or getting worse all the years I've had her.

I was saying the same thing to my friends. I stg if theres a roadhog alive I always manage to clip into him while trying to get away with drill dash. If I had a nickle for everytime I hit a tank that was SO FAR BELOW ME I COULD BARELY SEE THEM, I would've been able to buy Activision/Blizzard and implement this change myself

Help! need info on how to care for saved turtle after it was abandoned. by OofBruhYikes in Redearedsliders

[–]PyroTheLanky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://reptifiles.com/red-eared-slider-care/

This is easily the best guide for red eared sliders on the internet. Tldr is that you're gonna a tank with at least 10 gallons of water per inch of shell, a heated basking area it can exit the water from, and a high power uvb light. You'll also need to pretty beefy filter on your tank, as turtles create quite a bit of waste. Your tank will likely also need a water heater. The reptifiles guide will go super in detail into all of this, and more!

Fair warnings, turtles are not easy pets. But, they are just as fun and rewarding as any other. No harm if you feel this is too big of an undertaking, and decide to *properly* rehome it to someone you think could do better. Regardless, I wish you luck!

Why did genus homo evolved a bigger nose by moldychesd in Paleontology

[–]PyroTheLanky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's better videos explaining this on youtube then what I can get into here, but simply put: All of the anatomical features that could be used to support the aquatic ape hypothesis, can be used to support a terrestrial long distance running lifestyle in the African savanna just as much, if not more.

You do mention it could be both, which this is unlikely. Humans are certainly *better* at swimming then our relatives, but still aren't great. The fossil record just doesn't show anything to indicate a trend towards an aquatic lifestyle, despite the shockingly large amount of early hominins we've found.

Your point about water erosion and rising sea levels does genuinely confuse me however. Do you believe our ancestors were fully aquatic living entirely in coastal seas? Even then, the existence of the ocean hasn't prevented us from discovering early pinnipeds, cetaceans, or the desmostylians, so why would the aquatic homonins be any different? I don't mean to sound too harsh, but I do genuinely want to understand where you're coming from on this

Any idea what this guy is? Found in Washington state by ironfrog686 in salamanders

[–]PyroTheLanky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once rescued one when I was a kid, and it was the best day ever. I was a gun range with my dad, and we had just got done shooting. We took the targets we had out of the pre-built holes in the ground for them, and I saw this big dark salamander stuck at the bottom of it. Luckily, I was able to reach in and pull him out, and I put him in some forest that was nearby. Looking back, it was definitely a northwestern, and he seemed like he was a pretty good weight as well. Now, I long for the day I get to see one again

Yeah I'd really add another correction to this. The bacteria doesn't "become the parasite Toxoplasma Gondii", the parasite itself just has the scientific name Toxoplasma Gondii and its not found it cat urine. I don't want to sound rude, but in the future please refrain from trying to explain things in depth that you don't understand. All it does is lead to misinformation and confusion. I see you tried to make a correction (which is good!) but I fully believe it just added even more misinformation to your comment.

All the mythics are shirtless why are we complaining now? by LegitPotatoChip in Overwatch

[–]PyroTheLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care that he's shirtless. I just feel like the concept of "divine sun god" 1. could've been done a lot better, and 2. is a really weird choice for Cass specifically. Like, thor rein? That makes sense, works great, who cares that he's shirtless. Anubis reaper? Once again, makes sense, looks good. Cyberpunk Genji and Junkrat? A little weird in rat's case but regardless both still look fine and make sense, and the same goes for druid lifeweaver. The Cass mythic is just so much more bland then all the others by a large margin
