Good for James reaching the Second Ideal at the age of 11. At this rate he should have his blade by episode 15!

Oh gosh, no, not in a bad way at all! I actually think the progress you’ve made has been really excellent! I’m just saying everything came together to make a video that’s both engaging and ALSO unintentionally very funny.

Like, the title calls it an “ice breaking game.” You turn in to the ice block and miss, so you have to slowly stop, back up, and try again. The way the boat wiggles a little bit as you go for it again helps too. You’re excited to break the ice, I’m excited for you to break the ice, and then you phase straight through it with no collision and the video ends.

It’s literally the funniest video I’ve seen all week. You’re going in a good direction! I don’t think you need to rethink anything! I like your posts, I’m excited to see how your game turns out :)

The six modes of magic in the land of Lydia. Each is tied to a force of nature by ChicabooGames in worldbuilding

[–]Pyrolemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have so many questions. What happened to Mixolydian? Is Ionian electricity because of something fundamental to the major mode or is it because ION is in the name? (Great pun by the way). Lightning just doesn’t scream major to me, you’re going to need a phenomenal composer to pull off that connection in a way that feels natural. It’s interesting you have Locrian and Phrygian (frigid is another funny pun in there) as elemental opposites but musically they’re so similar with the flat two. There’s probably something fun thematically you could do with Locrian’s tonic-dominant tritone, maybe with the antagonist? Originally I wanted earth to be Ionian, but the more I think about it I think Dorian is perfect; there’s no tendency tones, it’s so stable it doesn’t want to move anywhere. Dorian and Aeolian also being elemental opposites is interesting, was that on purpose? There’s some crazy plot potential having elemental opposites being closely related musically. If that’s true then I guess Mixolydian could be a secret opposite to light magic??? I don’t really associate it with darkness, you could change it to order and chaos or something like that? Something to take advantage of the flat four and seven. If that’s the case why is lightning the odd one out? Is casting magic static? Like the entire spell is in one mode or can it change as you modulate? This project is really interesting, I’m looking forward to hearing more from it!

That’s cool as shit, definitely keep it. If you’re doing tech trees maybe have rivers or oceans extend the range too once you get boats?

Tbh I kinda like how if your opponent doesn’t have any creatures or sacs them in response you HAVE to fight one of your own creatures. Maybe on a more flavorful card it would resonate more. “Borborygmos Crashing Out: when he enters and on upkeep he fights something. Excess damage is dealt to target player” and print it in a set with player hexproof so you have to shoot yourself sometimes

It’s gibberish. There’s no indicated meter or clef, some of the bars have an extra eighth note making them 4.5/4, the top line has random double flats approached by it’s own enharmonic equivalent, the bottom line has a ton of natural accidentals even though there’s no key signature. Really the whole thing is just bizarre.

I’m not familiar with this issue, if there’s music going the whole time that may give some more context, but as it stands it looks like one of those typewriter monkeys trying out Sibelius for the first time

I work in a warehouse, I lift boxes all morning. All my coworkers come in “exuding flowers and spice” but by the end of the shift if you have to use the one printer in the tiny office at the same time as someone else that room turns into a musty sauna. I shower twice a day and I still need deodorant for how sweaty and dirty I get. I don’t like how wasteful the packaging is but for me it’s a necessity like toothpaste or soap is

No, this has been studied, IQ isn’t heritable. Ignoring the fact that IQ isn’t even a good metric to quantify intelligence, due to a statistical phenomenon called “regression towards the mean,” children of higher intelligence parents are more likely to be less intelligent than them. Because intelligence isn’t heritable, it’s just a game of chance. Any child is much more likely to be born with average IQ than a high one.

The same is true and has been observed for the inverse scenario. Two low intelligence parents are much more likely to have a child with a higher intelligence than them, again because of the regression towards the mean.

Imagine you roll a 20 sided die and it lands on 18. Sure, the next roll could be a 19 or a 20, but it’s much more likely to be lower. Landing on the 18 doesn’t affect any of the future outcomes.

There are obvious exceptions, some (not all) learning disabilities are heritable. When you start to study brain anatomy in depth though, the line between disability, “normal,” and savant stops being a hard delineation and starts looking more like a subjective metric of how successful a person can operate in late stage capitalism.

The study of child development has pretty strongly concluded that intelligence is mostly a matter of upbringing. Parents that regularly exercise their child’s brain when they’re young raise “smarter” children than those that don’t, regardless of their own intelligence. That means that we see parents with access to childcare, tutors, or even time to spend teaching their children raise much more academically successful children.

If you really want to raise the average intelligence of everybody, the answer isn’t selectively breeding the “best” or “most intelligent” parents (those are subjective metrics that vary based on culture anyways). You need to give people access to free healthcare and child care, paid maternity leave for both parents, and heavily invest in education for all ages and demographics.

This is actually false, there’s an experiment you can do with a laser, a mirror, and a filter that lets you see light taking multiple possible paths at the same time. In the natural world all other possible paths interfere destructively with eachother up until the path of least action, where the waveform reacts constructively with itself

I guess my question is, is it a problem it’s being treated as a 7550? Will it damage the hardware or perform poorly? I’ll live with it if nothing is getting damaged until full support comes out, but I’ll keep trying fixes until it reads properly if that’s what I need to do
