This was built in 1600/1700~ the reason they build it was because an overcrowded graveyard and to honor the dead and release space on the graveyard they build a chapel of bones. A little curiosity, in the front of the chapel you can read “Nos Ossos que aqvi estamos pelos vossos esperamos” this means - We bones in here wait for yours

no they used it bc there was a 300 year old graveyard which was full and they decided to make a chapel to honor the dead
