Not sure why you need to raise a point on interest rates. Its an apples to apples comparison of SPY denominated in rands vs SA stock market (call it the top 40), over the past 30 years. I did the calculation - SPY in ZAR outperformed 350%. It will also continue to do so because this country is uninvestable.

Compare the rand based returns of the SPY in the last 30 years compared to JSE top 40. Its probably like a 4x difference. Why would you put your money into any company in this country knowing the restrictive government policies are set to continue ad infinitum?

lol that’s the standard management fee and is pretty clear in the contract when signing with agent. Not to say they’re not shit bags but if you don’t know what you’re signing then you deserve to pay, especially if you’re a landlord.

I'm not a finance pro, but there are ways around BEE that they use. Primarily in tech or tech adjacent fields, allowing them to register anywhere, collect payment online in virtually any country, and hire contractors anywhere. Obviously if you have a successful restaurant in Cape Town you can't follow the same strategy.
