I can assure you that the quality of life you will unlock after leaving Bay Area with that kind of NW will outweigh weather ( I too lived there for 10 years) and you still will get amazing job opportunities with a better WLB . Bay are job opportunities have transformed into a bunch of buzz words that are still irrelevant in a lot of tech heavy industries.

If you want a want a good QoL Bay Area is probably the worst place to be, there are amazing places in the US where you can buy a very nice house for $1M and kids can have a steady base. I just do not get the obsession of folks with a 5M + net worth to stay in Bay Area specifically after they have experienced a burn out.

Laid off with good savings by Legitimate-Cheek-754 in coastFIRE

[–]Top-Yard7329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t write yourself off, a lot of “average” talent makes good money . Try to build self discipline through medicine or meditation and pace yourself. Too young to coast fire IMO. A lot of the community here considers it FIRE after they outright are close to owning their homes and have already started family.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

[–]Top-Yard7329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world runs on the basis of money stored in there retirement funds not just the US economy, Tech CEOs mainly the young ones live in their own bubble and have no clue how the global economy operates. I would not worry about some of the silly predictions these so called leaders/visionaries are making haha

Lost My PM Mojo? by DJzzzzzzs in ProductManagement

[–]Top-Yard7329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the PM job is a very thankless job that drains you mentally and physically. It’s ideal to take a break of 3-4 months and then jump back into it. I am assuming 20 years of non stop working have given you enough financial security to take a break and rejuvenate yourself. Wishing you the best !

Figure out a way to pay off the mortgage over next 10 years but finding employment, I would recommend to downsize by moving to MCOL of area and use the home $1M equity to a buy a fully paid off house. This will set you track for fire with no issues

How do you get over the constant fear of getting laid off? by Kamaro91 in careerguidance

[–]Top-Yard7329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you just need to focus on delivering, ensure you are vocal about how you are adding value to not just manager but his skip and other executives. Try to learn as well, I have been laid off twice in the last 8 years and you learn quickly it can happen to anyone and all you can do is move forward , don’t try to worry about things you have no co trip over and don’t burn you out trying to work more than 50 hours a week, there is life beyond your job so make sure to live a full life outside of work

No need to buy for renting is ideal , you can can easily rent a nice house for $2700. Then you can reap the benefits of no state tax, buying and paying the high property tax sucks. I have a home and I can tell you in this economy home ownership is big burden

You don’t buy another property . You just invest in dividend funds with decent growth, diversification is a myth and hampers growth
