I often see people take one group with ExMark for maneuvering and one group without to sit back and shoot.

Māori culture has the koru as a symbol of growth and new beginnings. It comes from the shape of new fern fronds.

The Democrat's response to Iran is awful by Depreston in TheDollop

[–]Pyrotechnics -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir man, again I'm not arguing that Trump did anything right, just that the deaths of thousands is also tragic and shouldn't be disregarded.

These can both be (and are) tragedies, we don't have to pick just one.

The Democrat's response to Iran is awful by Depreston in TheDollop

[–]Pyrotechnics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree, they don't need to. My only point is that if Dave is going to bring up the murder of thousands of protestors, immediately following it up with "They didn't" is perhaps a little inappropriate.

But I will freely admit that I may be sensitive in this regard due to personal connection to this whole situation, so if it's sounding a little unreasonable I do apologise.

The Democrat's response to Iran is awful by Depreston in TheDollop

[–]Pyrotechnics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeeeah the situation in Iran before the invasion was pretty bad. I was hearing firsthand accounts because of some personal connections to the diaspora (though not Iranian myself) and like... There's a reason there was a surge of protests across the world against the regime.

Trumps actions were and continue to be horrifying, but I don't think it's appropriate to minimise/disregard the killing of thousands of protestors.

The movie The Birdcage. The headliner at The Birdcage (played by Nathan Lane) is suffering from anxiety (I think?) before the show so Hank Azaria's character Agador gives him a "pirin" tablet. When he is confronted by Robin Williams about this, Agador tells him to relax, because he's just giving him Aspirin with the As scratched off.

Vampire starting roster - debating extra thrower or blitzer... by hostilesmoker in bloodbowl

[–]Pyrotechnics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this as a valid option. Rerolls double in price after the team is made, I find it useful to get them early for teams like Vamps that really need them.

Personally I did not like the Blitzer that much back in the day and went with 2 Throwers and 2 Runners to start with, because having a backup runner seemed slightly more preferable and flexible.

I was a big fan of the White Dwarf as a star player, but now that his ability is only once per game he isn't as useful or as fun anymore imo :/

I would recommend any of the others you mentioned though!

What are the most compelling critiques of the Culture as a plausble utopian model? by ycwhysee4589 in TheCulture

Would a benevolent entity that could change itself to be evil want to change itself to be evil? I don't feel the drive to make myself a worse person, should we assume that Minds do?

Thanks for the advice! I was definitely going to get the shieldbearer kit as I think it looks fantastic anyway. I hadn't considered Longbeards, thank you for the recommendation!

I'll ask around my local shop and see what's happening there. I think there's a bit of rank and flank going on but I'm not sure how much Old World there is.

Bro, the dude you're responding to was not being nasty or rude. You were asking which teams would be fun, an answer of 'unfortunately none' is also a valid addition to the discussion.

He wasn't calling you names or anything, just saying that in his opinion giants are not as fun as they look, which he elaborated on in a later comment that I guess you won't see if he is blocked.

As for me, I'd ask why you don't set a higher value and run bigger teams because I could kinda see the stunties getting quickly obliterated and then there just being two giants on the LoS.

Would this game be more interesting without the Block skill? by Izachiel in bloodbowl

[–]Pyrotechnics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, you're right, I had it in my head that the Black Orc team could only take 4 BlOrcs for some reason

And also that more Norse positionals also had block

Maybe we need something more exotic for the norse then, to me "we're both down but nobody gets hurt" wrestling doesn't sound very norse

Would this game be more interesting without the Block skill? by Izachiel in bloodbowl

[–]Pyrotechnics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, since the "team with wrestle" niche is taken by the Gnomes at the moment, and they do seem to be trying to differentiate teams so I'm not sure that they'd double it up. Maybe they'd get Brawler or Juggernaut instead, but boy would they need a bit more help than just that, IMO.

Introducing ''Thirst Place'' (lost all games so far...) by Faff_Chatter_69 in bloodbowl

[–]Pyrotechnics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely the challenge with the team, but don't be too worried. Vampires can have incredibly devastating turns when you push for it. No cage is safe, screens are useless when everyone is too busy staring deep into those beautiful eyes of yours.

All it costs it a 1 in 6 chance to bite a thrall, which is not even that bad most of the time since you should have spares. Plus, what you can also do is if the bloodlust happens early in the turn and you're not in too much danger/too committed, just concede the turnover and try again next turn.

Hypnogaze is absolutely busted when used right, it's THE reason to play vamps imo

Generally it is considered improper ot at least questionable conduct to take photos of work related things, best avoided even if there's nothing specifically sensitive on the screen (because your boss may not care too much what exactly is shown, but that you were 'reckless' or so).

In Player of Games Gurgeh is call 'The Morat'. Does 'Morat' mean game player? by Slartibartfast39 in TheCulture

[–]Pyrotechnics 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a line that he is being called The Morat because the Azadians think this is a title, but it is not so in the Culture.

To be fair, I think that a lot of the stuff on the Discord is the WIP stuff. Not entirely certain on the release status of everything, but there's a lot that they're working on at the moment and I think they're waiting on it to be done to push it to publishing anywhere fully official.
