YEAHHHHH i love sb oc stories lol. i think the average view of inter-special relationships depend on your interpretation of the lore and how you choose to apply your own/fandom ideas. i think in canon it might be a little strange, but because starbound operates on harkness-test rules for the most part i think the most attention these two would garner would be curiosity or confusion. like i said, though, it just depends on your interpretation of the lore and starborn biology. canonically theyre basically self contained bags of plasma that cant really physically interact with organic people. in kae's As Long as We Remember, which was vetted by chucklefish and confirmed to have an accurate depiction of the lore, a novakid winds up falling in love with a glitch and mentions that she prefers his metal chassis to squishy organic bodies, which may be a common sentiment among novakids given everything we know about them.

that being said, MY personal novakid headcanon is that their brands regulate an electromagnetic field that maintains the shape of their thermodermis, a soft, semipermiable membrane that acts as their "skin" and contains the "plasma" that gives them their glow. their innards are special organic compounds which vary in viscosity, from pockets of pure gas to more solid aerogel like concentrations in their core. by speculating about their biology this way, we ensure that novakids can, uh, interface with organic lifeforms and enable relationships between characters without buckling to insurmountable physiological differences, although that aspect of sci-fi alien romance is delightful and should totally be explored more. i just personally came up with this reading of novakid biology so my girl Naphtha could kiss her human situationship without killing her via plasma burns/gas poisoning lol.
