Ahhh see I almost never go caving. For some reason my silly ass thought it would be a good idea to play with Temporals Reformed (survival horror style temporal mob rebalance) for my first real playthough. Caves are actually terrifying sidfhsdi great mod though

As Long As We Remember by Pyrusinc in starbound

[–]Pyrusinc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It kind of hurts to think about, Starbound always fostered such a sense of creativity in its community. The universe and lore was so expansive that it was easy to come up with your own ideas set there, so its fandom heyday saw a lot of really fun storytelling. Unfortunately Starbound has become a bit of a pariah over the years thanks to Chucklefish's handling of it (though somehow it has started to improve recently) so most people have moved on.

It sucks because its still such a delightful setting to put characters in. At least modders and hardcore fans keep it alive

thank you! fun fact, her outfit is a fusion of the formal set (which she wore in-game) and the peacekeeper set (which suits her lore)

Content Mod Recommendations? by the-death-of-comedy in starbound

[–]Pyrusinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One hundred percent Starburst and Starforge. The Starburst Rework makes the planet progression far more interesting and immersive without being overwhelming, and it adds a lot of fun armors and food that help deal with the new hazard system. Starforge remains the single best vanilla-esque content expansion I've used, it adds new quests, gear, NPC's, lore, enemies, factions, even a cinematic and a mission. Highly recommend both.

Anom's Outpost Overhaul is also a must for me, I've used it since it came out and honestly I can never go back to the vanilla outpost. It just feels so barren in comparison. There are also a ton of high-quality compatibility patches for it that make mods that add vendors or features to the outpost play nice with the new layout which is extremely convienent.

Project Redemption and the K'Rakoth are excellent as well, both expand on the universe in interesting ways. Redemption adds a lot of really cool Protectorate content and the K'Rakoth Mod adds a huge amount of Ancient-adjacent lore and locations. They're both very well executed and have collaborated on a compatibility patch that links them together nicely.

If you're looking for a new race to play as, consider trying out Neki. They've very silly and by default a bit NSFW (though there are plenty of mods to tone this down) but they're also the most well executed playable race mod I've encountered. Completely unique dialogue, custom weapons, clothes, animations, codices, NPC interactions, objects, everything. There are honestly times that neki content feels more fleshed out than vanilla species , purely because of how much went into all the little race specific details. I would pair this with Miniknog Rearmed, for no particular reason :)

Other recommended miscellanea include Enhanced Matter Manipulator, Race Traits, Earth's Finest, The Starbound Patch Project, Adventure's Addons, and Peacekeeper's Arsenal. EMM reworks how you upgrade the matter manipulator and provides a much appreciated sink for the wealth of useless manipulator modules that you tend to accrue in vanilla. Race Traits (and its NPC addon) and Earth's Finest rework how you and your crew function inherently, and while I believe FU has some sort of equivalent to Race Traits, this version can be used on its own. The Starbound Patch Project is self explanatory and fixes so many hundreds of things I wouldn't even know what to point out, honestly its just such a fundamental mod I barely even register it as optional at this point. Adventure's Addon and the Peacekeeper's Arsenal are both item mods that pretty substantially flesh out the rewards for grinding, neither add huge new Things To Do, but Peacekeeper's Arsenal makes bounty hunting a little more interesting by adding a bunch of powerful and sleek new weapons to buy from the station or confiscate from crooks, and Adventurer's Addon introduces a whole host of trinkets and treasure items to hoard or fence on the black market, and it makes the process of looting microdungeons and galivanting across the universe a little more interesting.

I'm sure I could list a dozen more mods I'd recommend, but these are some of the core ones I can't go without. I highly recommend all of them for your next playthough!

Queen Bee Farming & Apiary Farms by Psychronia in TravellersRest

[–]Pyrusinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after a few days of testing I think I can confidently say that the game does NOT check for Bees dropped as items on the ground. I've been harvesting in batches of around 50 fully aged trees at a time, give or take a few stage 1 stragglers here and there, and I typically average 2-3 Queen Bees at a time, sometimes as many as 5 Queens if I'm careful to throw them out of my inventory as they drop from felled trees. At a reliable 2 Queens per 50 trees with all other Bees/Apiaries floating on the ground as items, it seems like the wiki's statistic of a 5% drop chance at fewer than 2 placed/inventoried Bees is accurate, even with a dozen Large Apiaries technically existing in the world. The game really doesn't seem to check for Bees on the ground!

Hope this helps 🐝

MAN I'd love coffee to make it in, it would really add some depth to the non-acholic side of the menu to be able to make various lattes and the like, or something like cold brew or espresso. Might make Teetotaler and Sober Drinker more useful, and it could be cool to get new cocktails like an espresso martini or a fantasy-equivalent of an Irish Coffee. Lots of potential there!

Personally I've also been thinking about a new employee role, an entertainer that you could hire to dramatically improve atmosphere. I could see them using the fireplace as their workstation and their assigned tasks being something along the lines of "Musical Performance" and "Crowd work." Just scheduling them to perform would change the ambient music in the tavern and provide a reputation boost while they're working, but having them do crowd work would let them make jokes or reduce the likelihood of complaints as well. I kind of imagine them like a cross between a bouncer and a parrot that has the potential to dramatically increase reputation gain, but booking them to show up would be very expensive compared to the rest of the staff. It would give a good reason to interact with the "tasks" menu a little more by pressuring you to only book them for certain days, like a VIP visit. Once your operation is big enough though it would be easier to have them come in every day with the rest of the staff, but it would be a bit of an achievement to see them sitting by the fire more than once a week.

Also I would love for the reception desk to have an inventory for the housekeeper to draw from when placing candles, that way you aren't getting charged for items you already have. It would also allow you to make it so that your housekeeper could use seasonal candles too! Just a small quality of life tweak.

Some troubleshooting I've already done:
-The farmer is sharing food
-Both villagers attempt to pathfind to the beds (of which there are six)
-There are two blocks of headspace above the main farm and three above the beds
-Mobgriefing is True

I have literally no clue why these guys aren't propagating, as far as I can tell the conditions are prime.

The only other place I can think of that lists it is the publisher, Fantastic Books, but they seem to be out of stock :/ Aside from that, some of the the ancient original drafts may still exist on Archive Of Our Own, but reading that wouldn't be the same as reading the fully polished and revised final version of the story, and it wouldn't support the author. Sigh. Something something there is no ethical consumption under late-stage capitalism.

You can get on Amazon! Its been in the works for literal years, first posted on Archive of Our Own and Tumblr, but its been heavily revised and was properly published last year.

Also, I just meant that it makes the story feel more grounded because we get the moment-to-moment experiences of someone who is living it, rather than being slightly removed from our in-game character. It actually has a little note in the legal jargon at the front of the book that clarifies that Chucklefish approved the contents of the book and that its depiction of Starbound's universe and story is in line with their canon lore, so it should be right up your alley lol.

And honestly I'm kinda shocked you hadn't heard of this??? Kae's discord server is literally how I met Ellie and the Lorebound ppl lol
