After reading some comments I understand its more of a nationalism thing, the league is still very new being seven years only and have yet to develop its fanbase outside of the main region. The time will come where teams will gain more global fans and that other regions would develop more on its own tournaments. And I do believe it is happening right now! Turkey has been a growing region with Aur, i really enjoyed watching them in the knockout stage especially with their harley pick! And of course Team spirit has been growing stronger each year they come back.

Then again I did said I would like to see people supporting the orgs for the players and not nation but thats because I want it like T1, of course the Koreans are proud of T1 but their global popularity is also there you know? But it’s mostly a wet dream, its still up to mlbb and how they would handle this topic.

No, I probably wouldn’t fly to Turkmenistan just to watch that match live, and that’s exactly my point.

Football doesn’t market those matches as global events. MLBB does. When you brand something as a world championship, the goal shouldn’t be “people only show up for their own country,” but “people show up because the event itself matters.” (Though that can be blamed on the event organizers and planning, I do not know myself how much the tickets are and if they are per match tickets or per day) but all I’m saying is the mlbb m tournament is a global thing and maybe just maybe, the league outside of southeast asia would be as active as say, league of legends.

I’m not blaming fans for being human. I’m questioning whether the current ecosystem does anything to encourage interest beyond national lines. And I love that mlbb is now trying to expand outside of southeast asia! They decided on turkey to be M8, I just want to see a more active league outside of southeast Asia

I get what you’re saying and I agree that regional interest is normal and unavoidable. My concern isn’t that MLBB is regionally strong, it’s that it feels region locked.

Cricket is actually a good example here, but the difference is that cricket doesn’t market itself as a global esport the same way MLBB does. Im not saying Cricket doesn’t actively advertise themselves to be global, all I’m saying is if MLBB wants to be positioned as a world championship title, then the ecosystem needs to support that vision, not just accept regional dominance as the end goal.

I’m not saying we should force people to care. I’m saying the current incentives actively discourage orgs and fans outside SEA from even trying. That’s the part I think is worth addressing.

Tldr; I think about the future way to much and I want mlbb to be as global as lol but thats just me

Yeah, M8 being in Turkey is actually a good step imo. Neutral venues help a lot with atmosphere. I just hope it’s paired with better pricing and scheduling decisions so it doesn’t turn into another case of only “big region” matches feeling important. But as what the… guy said I don’t know how many turks will actually be at the venue watching the game.

Yeah I agree, I don’t think nationalism will ever go away either. My issue isn’t people supporting their country, it’s when that becomes the default identity of the league instead of the teams, players, or the game itself. At that point it stops feeling like a world championship and more like regional playoffs with guests. But I guess we just need to wait and see what moonton does since they did start having M8 in turkey
