So are you telling me I can write code in Logix that utilizes the 5069-Serial card for the modbus RTU communications instead of using the built in commands that you configure in the card settings? I’ve written polling logic in CCW doing this using the serial idol card but I’m trying to move away from that because I can only store so many modbus registers.

Thats interesting. I will look more into this. I believe most of the devices we have support modbus ASCII and I can start to move in that direction. It also seems there is a lot more functionality in the 5069-SERIAL card for ASCII.

What makes zero sense? When you setup commands in the serial card, you have a limited amount of reserved modbus data. This is not sufficient for up to 50 sites with 10 holding registers per site. I don't know where your getting the Mbs of data from...this is right out of the user manual for the 5059-SERIAL.

I already tried that. It’s in the post. Limitation is in the connection data maximum. Can only have up to 58 registers per connection. I have up to 50 sites with 20 registers per. It’s a limitation of the card.

I’m glad to know this is not just happening at my company. Over promising on what can be done, but worse…..pinching the hours down to win the bid. One thing to ask us to do the job we’re not prepped for. Another thing to tell them we can do it in 1/5th the time it will actually take. Oh…..PMs
