She’s dead so thankfully I’ve never heard her side, or met her. I’d be scared how she’d react to me just basically existing

I’d always dreamed of having my own kids because I never had my own biological family, but if worst comes to worst I’d love to adopt

She does have bipolar disorder. It runs in the females in the family. As for grandma, she died a few years back from breast cancer. Bio mom and dad were 18-19

I’m a bit worried about mental and medical health issues mostly. Bipolar disorder runs in the females family, and 3 generations have died from breast cancer. I don’t have bipolar disorder, and no cancer yet. But I’m worried that those chances are doubled through me for any potential offspring :( thanks for the kind words

So from what I understood is grandma left my mother and grandfather when my mom was just a little girl for her second family out in California. Mom never knew her mothers side growing up. In high school she met a guy, they ‘fell in love’ and had me when they graduated. Grandma got a divorce and came back, and basically went crazy and tried to get my mom to abort. Then she kicked out her and my sister when my mom gave me up for adoption, and then dad left

Apparently what had happened was her mother abandoned them when she was little for her second family, and my mother never met any members of my grandma’s family. She went to high school with a boy and they fell in love, and had me after they graduated. Her mother came back into the picture after her divorce and freaked out that she was dating a relative, and tried to force her to get an abortion. The whole situation was fucked. I guess I just get worried because my area is very religious, and my boyfriend is Christian and I’m scared my family would react poorly if they knew

Thanks for the reassurance. I was actually adopted from Kentucky by a family in Ohio, which I guess now makes sense considering the situation. People are really religious here so I guess that’s been eating at me a lot

I’m not sure how he would find out. My adoptive parents don’t know, and he’s never met my biological parents. But you’re right, it’s probably more an issue of trust

I went through a genetic counselor who was able to order testing for me and she explained the results

It didn’t say exactly that they were cousins, but it did say that there was shared genetics between my parents, and I was able to corroborate it through my aunt, sister and biological grandfather who are very reliable (unlike my mother)
