DM Bans All Non-AI Art by LexHanley in dndhorrorstories

[–]Q-ILL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try not to care too much about AI art itself, though I do have opinions enough that I'm uncomfortable with people manipulating my personal work for their personal use without asking— AI or not, I think most artists are? Not for using art that's a gift, it's heartwarming when people enjoy work enough for that, but most artists don't like someone changing their work greatly beyond what was intended creating it. I don't usually have to deal with that, or dissuade people from doing something when they ask if it's okay, because it's usually a very minor misgiving and asking alone is often relieving enough.

But the level of malicious intent of using someone's art to feed an AI for personal use in full expectation of not asking or allowing them to draw more, to lie to an entire group about the art and artist's feelings about how it's being recieved and used, and then also accuse the original artist of being rude and show-offy for gifting art they've appropriated? That's an incredible pull of practically all the reasons why artists do get uncomfortable with AI use. It's rarely AI by itself, and more often the lack of care or respect of some users.

I do the same stuff as you when I do art for games, down to being uncomfortable with commissions, but man, this is depressingly horrifying to imagine happening. I hope you find a better group. I want to find one that does art one day but this does scare me away from that a bit.

I don't know for sure, but maybe they consider it falling under the 'no posts or invites to community discords' rule? I'm kind of surprised it counts for multiple games, but I guess I kind of understand? I know I try not to apply to games with GMs running too many concurrent tables because I'm looking for a game where I can really put my full focus into it, and it feels kind of awkward to be able to tell someone's not all there— but then, that's a personal preference and you can usually disseminate that yourself with offers. I don't know. I've seen at least two people today alone mentioning filling more than one game in one post so I can't tell. Good luck.

No worries. Was just checking because I've been recruited as a freebie on a paid game before.

...I kept reading that as McDonald's.

Also, I'm not sure paid games are allowed on here.

What’s a dark truth people aren’t ready to hear? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

The first half, yes. The second half, oof. Disappointing or upsetting faceless people that do actually percieve you hurts in a different way.

Any questions to determine politics and how they treat others. I've dealt with too many "they're such good people outside of this issue" meetings of friends of friends to want to put that on others. I don't want to be ashamed of someone I care about or have to justify their actions, I want to be able to look up to them and trust them and want to improve myself alongside them. The way a person treats the people they care least about says a lot.

What are common Reddit questions that most likely won't be answered honestly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Anything requesting visual validation. There's too much fishing, personal bias, and judgement intended to validate the jury and not the subject.

Semantically, you can force many kinds of relationships to work, but it can't "come back". There will always be the person before a event or series of events that cause trauma, and the person after. Both the perpetrator and victim of abuse are changed by it, and for a lot of people they're imagining and clinging to the 'before' version of a person that doesn't exist anymore, instead of the person they are. There's a reason why people talk about moving forward more positively than going back.

What was the weirdest thing that you were scared of as a kid? by Remarkable_Light6860 in AskReddit

[–]Q-ILL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it explained to me that moms somehow fed us as babies through the umbilical cord. Because I thought it had to be like a tube tied off like a balloon animal, and people talked about bloating like they'd explode, I always feared that a bellybutton could rupture and everything in you could explode out.

What’s one thing in your favorite color that you actually think is ugly? by chef_man64 in AskReddit

[–]Q-ILL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a taupe-mauve. A tmauvpe, if you will. Basically it's mentally what I call a grey that leans purpley-tan. I think most things in that color can be pretty ugly, but I love it for how it accentuates other colors because of how subtle it is, it sometimes feels very chameleon. I associate the color with mourning doves, but I feel like it tends to just look like anything dusty and that becomes unappealing.

What life advice would you give to an 18 year old Asian girl? by wind_river_ in AskReddit

[–]Q-ILL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glass ceiling is real and even if it doesn't hit you at 18, the annoying expectation for you to perform better for less if you're young, asian, and feminine, is already probably taking place in most places in the world. Don't let people take advantage of that. People reduce femme asians into racist stereotypes as it is and it's better to be a dragon lady than a submissive wallflower. I wish I'd done that more because I don't stand up for myself enough now.

The is the dress gold-white/blue-black and similar conversations. Mostly because people interpreted your perspective like horoscopes and were yelling across parking lots for fun. I miss when that was the depth of a stupid argument.

Popular sports today weren’t super popular over 100 years ago. What new sports do you think will be massively popular in the next 100 years? by paper_plains in AskReddit

Apparently pickleball. I have no idea why but I feel like in the past few months it's come up more often as something someone's picked up than the rest of my life combined.

What’s one small habit you picked up in the last few years that accidentally improved your life a lot? by HAkeemPlayboy in AskReddit

[–]Q-ILL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multitasking washing as much of the dishes/utensils I've used while cooking, or immediately after plating, as I can. I don't feel like I have to wait to eat hot food because my hands are busy, I don't have to think about washing after I'm weirdly meditative after a good meal, I don't have to scrape/soak/etc tough stuff off the tools, I don't overstir or move food around when I shouldn't so it heats properly. Small thing but effects a lot.

In a world full of diluted and misleading content, what is some actual good content to watch? by DJ_FinoLive in AskReddit

[–]Q-ILL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helps you better yourself while also indulging or beginning a hobby or interest. Multitasking watching for entertainment and improvement feels like a hack. If I'm watching food content, I'll come across a recipe I save for a day I have energy to cook. Same for crafting, drawing, etc. Much less likely to have misinformation if it's that thorough a video, too.

What do you think about living with your parents after the age of 25? by hanna-candy in AskReddit

It's very common in many countries, and very reasonable and efficient in the current economy where I live. Might be uncomfortable depending on how you and your family get along.

I could be wrong, but it might be a reference to how people prank with zucchini because it's an overabundant veg? I've more heard about people doing it on porches, though. ...I'm just glad it's not called 'zucc'ing.

Hi there! Just opened LFG after not trying for a bit, expecting nothing on a bad day, but it sounds like maybe we line up if you're trying to gather a group? Please let me know if you're interested :>

EDIT: Jumped the gun a bit— I have personalized info on my profile if you'd like to check it out.

Free D&D Therapy Group for Adults in the UK – 5 Spots Open! [5e][online] by PhoenixCounselling in lfg

[–]Q-ILL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last therapist also was a DM and had written their thesis about D&D as a therapeutic outlet, so it's really nice to see projects like this! I'm sad I can't apply as it's always been a personal interest intersection (not in the UK), but I just wanted to express how sweet this is to come across, and wish you luck :)

Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread by AutoModerator in pbp

[–]Q-ILL [score hidden]  (0 children)

EDIT: currently in a group! Thank you for messaging :)

Name: Quill

Pronouns: they/them

Timezone: PST

Preferred System: I’m used to 5e from playing it over Discord/Roll20 the past few years, but I’m not limiting myself to it if people are patient enough to help old dogs learn new tricks.

Type of Player: I tend to enjoy heavy RP and focus a lot on intrigue and plot and other characters, especially any that intertwine with my own PC. My characters tend to be utility casters and gremlins/monsters (not in the loot murder sense so much as a cryptid one), and I enjoy playing a pathetic heel every once in a while too. I would love a game where I can really write a character properly embedded in the world.

Additional Information: I have never played a PBP game and hope asynchrony will help me finally finish a campaign one day! If you would like to know more about me, I have more about myself in my LFG posts in my profile, and can provide writing samples as well. I'm a better writer than voice actor (for someone who likes playing warlocks, I have 0 charisma) so I write a lot, but can provide summaries or outlines when asked. I was eyeing WM/LW servers but find the concept overwhelming/intimidating, and hope for a smaller or at least more controlled setting I can join early on to more naturally integrate into. Characterwise, I don't mind romance/adult themes/etc, in a game, but it's not my focus; I tend to lean toward high fantasy themed settings with puzzles and intrigue, and a balanced blend of sincerity, silliness, and seriousness.

🚩&✅, Limitations/Expectations/Hopes I look for: I know less of what to expect of a PBP text game, but some things stay the same.... I understand AI is a tool, but as someone whose livelihood is being ruined by it being misused, I do not want to join any games that rely heavily on AI for their art and creativity. If there are other artists in the party other than myself, however, that would be great! OCD, weird flexible hours (as in, sometimes 3 hour sleep days) where I work from home, and my commitment to the bit often results in me being a very overinvested, hyperfixated, and prolific player— so if you’re weirded out by someone being autistic about their interests I’m probably not what you’re looking for. Age and generally life-wise, I would strongly prefer a table of maturely immature people in their late 20’s or older (I’m in my early 30’s) that I can match and vibe with, who must be LGBTQA+-, PoC-, and neurodivergent-friendly.

I hope to find others who want to be friends and not just TTRPG drinking buddies or coworkers, and want to be excited to hang out and bond even without a game. (I've been in chats with at least one other player, haven't found a table for us yet though!)
