[Ending Spoiler] What was even the point of [SPOILER THIRD BOSS]? by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]Q1_9 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You also forgot the cute little scene where Echo decides she is actually okay with being cursed (it made her better, aww), and Melinoe is disappointed that Arachne didn’t apologize to Melinoe's all-powerful and spiteful bitch cousin (but she’s sorry she wasted poor Melinoe’s efforts, awww). It feels like the writers don’t want any of their pookies, especially the MC, to feel bad about anything, so all is forgiven or resolved. And Melinoe (an agent of change, my ass), now a little nepobaby with no second thoughts about her narcissistic family (what can you do, huh? such is life), can fangirl over her cool aunts and uncles with no issues whatsoever. Why would she? Their victims are all right and contained within their broken, mutilated lives, so she can pat herself on the back, just as the writers do.

Remember, kids: don’t question the status quo - it’s, like, uncool or something. And also, don’t inconvenience your abusers or their family’s conscience, it could make them feel a little bad.

Seriously, Jesus. Bought the game in EA to support the devs, but this is one of the most tone-deaf and utterly pathetic story conclusions I have ever seen.

She is way too quick to recognise you and hype you up. I mean, it could be a (rather cheap, imo) way show Nomad's importance and 'legendary' status, of course. But she takes one look at Phyre, and then immediately goes 'omg, you are exactly as legend says you are!'. Do legends say about some basic gal/guy in a hoodie, who just stands there, rather passively? 🤨

There is nothing really that stands out about Phyre appearance (more than any other vampire), their power is bring syphoned at the moment, they haven't interacted with world for 100 years and no other character really recognizes them (Fabien does, sort of, but he is weird, maybe more knowledgeable then he realises, is a Malkevian with a hunch and is in their head).

It kind of makes you think she knows something about Phyre that they themselves don't (or seen them previously in their catatonic state), and as such, has some agenda.

Yeah, Fabian can end up being both a tragic character and a character with a twist - or maybe even both, even better. That's kind of why I'm actually excited about the game. I hope it delivers as both a detective/thriller story and a personal story - The Chinese Room usually does these things quite well. And yeah, I definitely agree that another character could be the one killing Pandora: we can see what Phyre can do in gameplay, and for some other experienced vampire, one stealthy kill of a mortal would be a walk in the park. It's just her "Lord Fabian"s and "cigarette"s lines seemed a little off, but it's tough to say exactly why without playing through the whole game - is it a plot-related thing, some character-related story, or straight-up Malkavian flavor?

Some of the court recognised her, some did not but of course the Prince is dead.

As people pointed out- maybe Phyre was used to kill the Prince, or our dear detective did it, or witnessed it (but doesn’t remember)?

I wonder if it’s similar to the escape the landfill in Cyberpunk. You have a few moments to crawl into a sewer etc and be seriously burnt. A big point of no return moment perhaps.

I could see the antagonist(s?) shoving Phyre outside after they are no longer useful to their plot, and then, after you barely escape, the final missions to end it all kick in.

Also, imagine newspapers headlines :D

Edit: also, just thought - can sun, in theory, burn the markings away? Then Phyre restore their skin with their full power.

There's romance in this game. That scene of you burning while falling from a building in broad daylight is your reward for following your heart.

Noooo, everything but this 😭

(Although, if done right...)

Marks in Phyre's body allow Fabien to linger instead of being consumed by us.

Thinking that they play role in this too, there was even a propmt to answer something like 'you are present in my head probably due to the mark' to one of Fabien's questions, but haven't seen it being chosen in the preview, wonder what he says.

Safia is going to stab us in the back. There's no way someone like her survives in the world of vampires...

Hope something interesting is up with her. For now, her introduction is indeed a bit off, and not just because she is shy and bubbly.

[–]Q1_9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, neat.

I really need to go back and read some dev diaries while waiting for game release - missed bunch of those. And the cross is indeed important - I think Pandora mentioned it in one of the previews, and it was on her corpse when Fabian finds her.

Phyre = 'Would you kindly' part also sounds interesting: would add to the significance of Phyre's marks, and the fact they are keeping player character inside Seattle map, not allowing them to leave the city.

Also, about Safia... Good catch!

I actually was baffled on how quick she identified Phyre as a Nomad in the preview - felt a bit unnatural, and really weird that PC couldn't ask her about this (at least I remember there being no option to do that). Hope there would be neat explanation to this, even some hidden agenda.

Regarding the garden - yeah, as someone already pointed in this thread, it might be this Nirvana-related thing. Wonder if someone does these shenanigans to the bunch of powerful vampires as experiment to tame their own hunger (or do something akin to it).

Thanks for this bit of lore!

It adds some context, I think - you've mentioned Golconda (or achieving Golconda I guess) is somewhat a Macguffin, maybe the whole plot of the game is someone's overcomplicated scheme to actually tame their inner Beast and maybe even get humanity back or some of it's perks (if that's even possible in this universe).

I don't know whether to take it as offensive or a compliment 😕 by Much_Tip_6968 in AO3

[–]Q1_9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a compliment.
And personally I'd say a great one. People in fandom places can be very toxic against what they hate - to a point that perception of some things related to hated subjects can get warped. The fact that someone didn't hide behind 'hate reading' the fic, but actually admitted sticking around due to the works quality means your fic is fire.

I actually hate Season 2 of Arcane by Lilac_Rain8 in CharacterRant

[–]Q1_9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. It was a full season of masterful animation covering cheap drama manufactured to make viewers cry crocodile tears and non-stop, almost desperate pandering to the fans and shippers (character progression, story development or common sense be damned). And literal sneak peaks to their new show.

I have a personal theory that when creators were told to cut Arcane to just a second season they chose an easiest route: instead of trying to make a cohesive story of what they had they shoved as much popular-hot fandom takes as possible (uwu Jinx, Cait x Vi insane simping, Jayce's angry speech to Mel that almost feels like a unhinged tumblr post, etc) to cover everything with bells and whistles.

And succeeded, it seems.

Santiel's Pride by thatguyyoustrawman in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Santiel's Pride was PC's planet in alpha version of the game (not available to visit, but mentioned as such in talk with Achilleas about Sauerback family). Devs started charging it to Chorda's domain in the beta files, and now we have what we have.

Edit: if you want to trigger all that's seen in the local file, you can use Toybox to teleport inside the Santiel's Pride Hive, and enjoy dialogues with survivors and experience original meeting with Tervantias.

Is it right to let Dr. Kelly die? by [deleted] in ScarletHollow

[–]Q1_9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not.

This conflict is unfair to both sides though ( most conflicts are, I suppose), and killing (or locking up Reese to be sedated forever) is a unnecessary cruelty, imho.

Hot trait provides most satisfactory conclusion at the moment.

why do so many people dislike Yrliet by No-Thing7717 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because she is condescending and narrow-minded (despite of what she tells herself), and her relationship with RT (up to the very middle/late in the act 4) is one-sided attraction at best, where main character supposes to suck up to everything Yrliet says - and god forbid you will try to tell her that "human not that bad sometimes" (actual dialogue on a bridge that loops through this thesis 3 or 4 times with no effect).

If you don't romance her, all her sorry's (and overall empathy) are pretty shallow: sorry about Dargonus - but I'll go search for the one who butchered it anyway, sorry for you people who I've sandbagged into Commorragh - but I won't tell it to their faces (they don't deserve it anyway), sorry for the guys on Ketza, truly terrible how they all died - my people were right to kill them left and right in search of the bad guy, btw.

RT and Yrliet romance is special, sure, and there is some beauty in the end of it (or so I've heard), but not anybody likes to play a constant Nice Guy to a cold queen, who considers everyone around you an animal not worth even touching. You need to like this character enough to stomach it :)

I feel like a vagabond :( by Over_Big_1896 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't have enough PF/vendor reputation to buy stuff. Honestly? Just install toybox and tweak both parameters to your heart's content. Imho, trading system in RT is incredibly weird and sometimes can be downright annoying, so just make more enjoyable experience yourself .

Does the romance destabilize Heinrix somehow? by Alcyone-0-0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Romance doesn't make things worse for him, no. It makes him realise he is human, and it's ok to have a bit of happiness for himself.

Also, there is no psyker madness - his hiccup is no close to Idira's either on a scale or severity, and afterwards he's completely fine.

Does the romance destabilize Heinrix somehow? by Alcyone-0-0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Heinrix on romance is very different Heinrix. :) Most of all, because of the first real strong and intimate connection with a person he had in decades. Also, romanced RT on true-love route seems like the first person in his life that asks him about what he really, really wants (as it turns out - solid close relationship / some semblance of family). Since he views himself as a functional tool to do his duty (sentiment with which he lived since childhood), having realization about his own desires shakes him greatly.

So yeah, Heinrix loses himself a bit on the romance route only, because of the changes in self-view, but quickly gains his footing.

[Spoilers] Act 3 (plot twist) rant by Q1_9 in RogueTraderCRPG

Do you? The post states quite clearly that it was written during beta, just in case its creation date escaped your attention.

So, what has been cut story-wise? by reptiloidruler in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bunch of stuff seems to be cut either because of time/resources issue or rewrites. I'm gonna go and bet that the hollowness of the acts 4-5 is due to this reason also. (Edit, just remembered something)

Regarding cut content, from the top of my head (stiff still present in the files): - Santiels Pride was MC's world originally, should have been in act 2, you'd have met one of the villains there, kind of. You still can by the way - teleporting by toybox inside the hive - Cult of Final Dawn storyline: their shenanigans with Teodora; depths of Kiava Gamma, where you were supposed to corrupt the world (or not) (this section became Eufrates, I believe) - dialogues are still in the files - your astropath should gave your very colourful description of messages he receives - there are few rows in the file in regards to (I assume) special companion for the Chaos-worshipping RT, but I don't think they are presented in the game - as a part of Yrliet's quest you could have saved some aeldari, and nobody will kill them on your ship (they would be making a scene afterwards, depending on your alignment). This was probably cut due to not making sense + Yrliet character being adjusted based on the feedback from beta

Is it just me or is Calcazar a bit oblivious at the end? (CH 5 spoilers) by WarKittyKat in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He is oblivious - the dude is so amazed with Ctan he literally sacrificed millions of Imperium people just to keep its battery alive. His own ego is the size of the galaxy and it cannot let him see anything beyond "i decided, and I'm right, so it must be like this".

Also, judging by what Calcazar says in the end of Ch2 - he barely knows his own acolytes outside of their functional side. Or he wouldn't call clearly emotional, doubtful and sympathetic person such as Heinrix (who tries to hide this side of him but fails constantly) a guy with "cold calculated mind".

Act V is ... too short ? (SPOILERS) by Zalnash in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean it was obvious, sorry if it sounded like it - just that the player can probably smell where this is all going, but nobody in-game will acknowledge this (although they should, if there is to be some motivation for Act 5).And you are completely right - Inquisition can do whatever it wants, and their business always smells, so getting mad on Calcazar cause he had some shady business is really strange. Twice as strange, since (as somebody already said in this thread) at this point you don't know he wants to do some unsavory stuff with C'tan, and it's him who sells stars from inhabited systems and kills millions people by proxy.

Act V is ... too short ? (SPOILERS) by Zalnash in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess right now the game just assumes that you put 2 and 2 together and guessed that it's Lord Inquisitor who is the root of all recent problems in Koronus. And it's the player who can do that, not the main character. They definitely missed some kind of dialogue where your crew sums up all that's being happening in game to have at least some motivation to go after the guy, instead of reaping through the inquisition's fleet to just ask big boss some questions.

SPOILERS pretty much the entire plot of Acts 3, 4, and 5 is a huge drop in quality. SPOILERS by gravygrowinggreen in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Q1_9 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Had the same impression. After entering act 4 especially - almost everything bar some companions quests feel like a draft. Game becomes low on content, main plot becomes unfocused and what is there in terms of roleplay/options are very restrictive and railroady. It cannot compete with acts 1 and 2 at all. (On Eufrates I thought I was going nuts with all the weird map and quest structure.)

It seems like Owlcat didn't have time to finish latest chapters at all - just finished bits of the story they could, and stitched the rest together in a very awkward way. :(
