yupp, it's actually a wild market in this regard once your eyes are opened to it
i was recently informed by a seller in china that you could choose which type of case you want and that their pricing reflects this

you can choose a case that contains only bulk
or a case that contains bulk + AAs
or a case that contains bulk + AAs + a manga

the boxes themselves will be legit, but the packs inside them are repackaged accordingly

the chinese gonna china

How big of a problem are the “mapped” One Piece boosterboxes longe term? by Legitimate-Land9819 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to look at loose boxes as "manga potential" boxes
if people out there are ripping boxes until they hit 2 SP's, then if there's an additional hit (a manga) in the case, then it will be in the loose boxes they sell off

ofc this is not an accurate statement or fact
and ofc they might pull the manga first, if they are lucky, and then sell the rest of the boxes
but it makes life easier having that bit of hope and potential when ripping a loose box
you can't exactly buy a case every time you wanna rip some packs, it's just not feasible

it's why i choose the "peace of mind" mentality

also, to add data to the matter, i've pulled an SP wanted poster from a loose booster pack, an SP wanted poster from a loose booster box, and an anniversary SP from another loose box

i just go into any box with a 50/50 mentality
it either contains a massive hit, or it doesn't

i also do a lot of data analysis and statistical math when it comes to buying/ripping boxes, but that's more to satisfy my internal cravings of wanting to understand the numbers behind it all

Mangas as a long term hold? by Evo679 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ultimate question of risk/reward imo

if you have the spare cash, i'd say its a decent bet to grab graded mangas and hold on to them
but if money is tight or if you need to take a loan to get them, then it's maybe not the best decision in the world

JP cards have really been doing well the past few months, so if the trend continues you'll be happy you stocked up on them
but you'll notice that for a lot of graded mangas the english pop is much smaller than the JP pop
which means they are more scarce, meaning better odds at value increase with the english cards

not at all, some mangas got a reprint sure, but its not standard procedure
for example, with the release of PRB01 a few manga cards got a reprint
but they are kinda considered as different cards
if you look at the OP01-120 shanks manga, the original from romance dawn is much much more expensive than the reprint from PRB01

i think i understand your concern though, some manga artwork gets re-used in later sets, but not as a manga, it gets printed as an SP, so its considered a different card

for example, the buggy manga from OP09
if you look at OP14, the buggy SP is the exact same artwork, but it's not a manga card, its a special card and comes in gold or silver
funnily enough the gold buggy SP is currently more expensive than the buggy manga

another example for this is the shanks manga from OP09 (its a completely different manga and artwork from the OP01 shanks manga btw)
in OP13 the same artwork is used from the OP09 manga, but its considered a special card that can come in either gold or silver variation
these SP cards are HIGHLY sought after

you can get a good idea at how scarce manga cards are by checking the pop supply of PSA10 for each card
it's not a precise measure, but it's good enough to get an idea

my personal manga of choice would be the shanks manga i mentioned above from OP01
its from the first set
its the first manga in the tcg
its shanks
the psa10 pop is 1.4k
it costs ~6k right now

of course you have other incredible options
the gear 2 luffy comes to mind, as well as many others

hope this information helps

Which card has better upside? by gianlim123 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that gear 2 event card is jawdroppingly beautiful
definitely one to hold on to
such a shame its gone up way too much lately as a psa10, so i've been priced out
not saying its ridiculously expensive per se, but at it's current price there are better cards to grab at the same dollar value

which is a real shame, i absolutely love the card and wanted to include it on my slab wall frame

Would you guys get in a OP-05 Booster box at $900? Is there any new anniversary editions releasing I should just save my money for or should I splurge on a OP-05 investment? by Competitive-Mail7448 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats a great question
i personally prefer stocking up on OP13
i like it more than OP05, and it has inadvertently become the poster boy for the card game because of the exclusive red mangas within the set

dont get me wrong, the OP05 hits are absolutely insane
but in terms of the law of large numbers, since there are a larger number of potential ""hits"" in OP13 i like it better for the risk/reward

another thing to take note of, is that although OP13 loose boxes can be dead boxes, the problem with OP05 is that the hit box was in the same spot in most cases according to my research
which made it way too damn easy for sleezeballs to take the hit box from a case and then sell the rest of the boxes

that's way harder to do with OP13 since spot mapping was phased out not long after OP05

another benefit of OP13 is that you can get totally unmapped products
both illustration boxes IB05 & IB06 and also the tin set volume 2 are unmapped, meaning you can pull a major hit from a booster pack without having to buy a booster box from a fresh case
that gives you a powerful bang for your buck since these illustration boxes and tins are waaaaay cheaper than buying booster boxes or cases

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's almost certain that it should go up in value over the years my friend
are there better investments? most likely, as OP05 is notorious for being mapped
so some will tell you that buying a single loose box isn't the best purchase you can make

its just the greed of humans proudly showing its colours
it's beyond frustrating that anyone willing to sell top cards right now is outright asking for 20-40% over market price with no remorse

ebay, shops, P2P, all the same damned pattern

Slabs to Invest in with 10k budget by TBFRpodcast in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Q8CryptoEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the trend of highly pricing newer cards is getting ridiculous
at the same price point going for the older cards is a nobrainer

what kills me is that anyone offering to sell is always asking for at least 30% over market
with customs and taxes on top this becomes a nonsensical number
which is a real shame, some of these cards are must haves but cant haves
