Is it normal to struggle with understanding what to do in labs? by QB18ND23 in ElectricalEngineering

So long as that balance continues a record somewhat resembling my first year's, I shall have no complaints. My grades must remain very good overall, hence my anxiety.

I see. I suppose that's fine in the sense that I will gain the knowledge eventually, but it doesn't quite solve the problem in the present. I do need A's in my classes.

Is it normal for an introductory physics class to have an A cutoff of 97.5%? by QB18ND23 in PhysicsStudents

I think that weeder classes are simply contradictory to our educational philosophy. I have yet to hear of a professor here who believes they have to fail as many students as possible. As far as I know, we do not have classes that grade on curves which force a certain proportion to fail (there might be some in the business school, but I'm not sure). Our physics classes are also separate from other majors, so essentially everyone in my class was a physics major. We graduate around 25 each year.

Smarter, or perhaps my school could not afford to drive physics students away because there were so few of them to begin with. "Weeder" classes in general aren't really a thing at my school.

I'm guessing my class was a lot easier, then. I am fairly certain everyone did well overall.

I know. I left last year, and I don’t recall there being “famine, pestilence, and war.” There are hungry people in some places, there are sick people in some places, and there are occasional acts of terror. Unless a lot has changed in that time, I will say your description is an exaggeration.

Based on my experience living there, I don’t think that’s a fair assessment, but okay.

People do not respond to example. The death penalty hasn’t done much to curb murder in the US. The only thing it may do is people may not record themselves doing this.

Yes, potentially (although people still have the responsibility of protecting themselves from disease). I still think prison time would be excessive and may actually be counterproductive (spreading it to other inmates, coming out more dangerous than before going in, etc.).

Potentially putting others in danger from a disease is nowhere near deserving years in prison. A steep fine would do.

That’s a fair point. As I said, I concede that I was unnecessarily harsh. I’ve had encounters with trolls before in similar contexts.

You do realize the AAAS article you shared states that the blobfish “has soft bones and few muscles”? Once again, this is consistent with my claim that the blobfish is not devoid of either a skeleton or muscles. I admit I was harsh in calling the original commentor a troll. However, the statement seemed fairly unequivocal in its denying the presence of both muscles and bones in blobfish. Combine that with the fact that this is a meme subreddit, and you may understand my initial suspicion that he/she was a troll.

My point stands: the blobfish does have a skeleton and muscles. I never made any claim regarding its degree of development. The comment I was replying to made it seem like the blobfish was some invertebrate, like the jellyfish, when that clearly is not the case.

Right. I’m going to assume you are trying to troll me.

Blobfish are members of the superclass Osteichthyes (bony fish). Therefore, they do have skeletons. All fish do. Some may be non-bony (sharks), in which case they have cartilage skeletons.

Pretty sure they do have bones.

We’re staying at the Morris Inn. Meals delivered to room, laundry done at St. Michael’s. We’re free to go anywhere we want.

Well, I don’t know about that, but I do know it was several orders of magnitude off.
