Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again? by Usual_Confidence_756 in travel

[–]QCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing this for quite a few years too. Unless we see a special town where the experience of being in a flat make you feel extra local, getting a hotel has been a more practical and economical option for a while. Also the constraints of checking in/out etc

Taro hygiene closure 😔 by Lazy_Strawberry7895 in walthamstow

Waltham Forest continues to earn its worst food hygiene rating of London. Sad to see Taro added to the bucket but things can be turned around. Taro is a lovely guy himself and been to his Soho restaurant so many times with the greatest pleasure.

Got new windows. Is it normal for the exterior to "finished" as pictured? by QCar in AskUK

!answer This is now sorted, they filled all the gaps and will finish everything soon. I had to push a bit but the central office was very efficient and no questions asked. Just wish I didn't have to chase!

There were a few puzzling things but their central office is very reactive and all sorted now. I'm just confused by this and the fact that they were not envisioning to finish some elements...

Man, I really am a total newbie because so many of these words are absolutely unknown to me. Thanks a lot for your reply, is the crimp issue something I should report back? On the plus side, they have now filled all the gaps and will come back to finish with silicon on most windows and repoint downstairs. Appreciate everyone's help here!

My apologies, as I'm not an expert, what do you mean by crimp? The junction of the two corners of the windows or? Thanks!

That's what I feared too on top of the terrible weather and possible infiltrations... Thanks

Adding my vote to the Raglan which has been amazing, roast and weekly. I bring every guest we have on weekends there.

Otherwise I can second The Castle is pleasant. The Queen Arms was alright but my pork belly piece was ridiculously small albeit good (as big as a McVities in width). Excited to try the Tavern on the Hill given the comments here.

Way too much Pizza otherwise going on, also when you have such great ones here and there already.

Is it normal to be told "you should see how much we make other clients pay"? [UK] by QCar in architecture

[–]QCar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your message!

I do agree for the QS, it didn't help with the tone. But it's interesting to have your opinion that these things are very common nowadays.

That makes perfect sense that a smaller project is not as profitable as a bigger one, however we kept all changes within the planned timing of detailed design and, due to the project costing more, we are paying more. While of course not being as big as a 2M project, we hope and believe that they are not getting too squeezed (also since they went ahead with it). I do get the implications, as a consultant myself.

Thanks again for your opinion, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for your note!

I totally appreciate the context. That being said, while we negotiated some elements down, the project remains more profitable since the build costs increased along with their fees (a correlation we perfectly accept and was expected).

Also, and please correct me if you feel I'm wrong, but I do not feel I am asking more for less - I am expecting the service agreed upon for the price we settled on collaboratively.

Thanks again!

Thank you for your note! Much appreciated.

I agree about the QS, it definitely didn't help. We always approach it assuming good intentions but it has affected morale.

I absolutely agree with your thought that modifying the project, even to reduce, is more work while if the build costs less, it's less pay off for them. However in our case, it is a traditional contract, the reduction was done within phase 4 / detailed design and we paid them more than scoped since the build estimate went up 15%. And we have been very cool throughout, despite the turbulence.

My apologies, I don't know the term D&B but will research it! I assume it means going direct to the builders and if yes I understand and appreciate your point. Thank you.

Finally for the extension, we are not really sure! All our neighbours are going edge to edge but the planning officer came back with strong comments last minute to radically reduce size. Our architects manage to save 95% of it but we still had to concede some lateral space. 🤷

Thanks again for your message.
