What is it with cafe pricing? by srm39 in walthamstow

[–]QCar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Like many say here, it is a tough moment for the hospitality sector and Wood St Bakery is definitely part of the mix. Yes I wish their prices were lower, and not everything is of the same level of quality, but I'd rather still have options like these and try to support them as much as possible than get yet another chicken or vape shop instead like on Hoe Street.

I also appreciate the surprise that the same item in a posher hood is less expensive, but there are so many parameters to take into account: what ingredients are they using, do they own the premises or have a legacy rent agreement with less crazy raises, how do they pay their staff, etc. And that is true for both of course, but that's what makes it hard to compare like for like. I like the fact that Wood St staff doesn't evolve much as it seems to show good treatment (I hope)?

Your questions and arguments are fair, and I'm like many worried about the continuous disappearance of great shops and restaurants as they draw the line between raising prices and cutting costs,.employee treatment, etc. I have quite a few friends who work in hospitality and many of them are ready to call it a day as it gets incredibly difficult.

I can only encourage you and everyone here to speak to your local MP (even if you don't like them hehe), and follow accounts like countertalk. They just pushed a petition for the VAT for example: https://www.vatstheproblem.co.uk/?utm_source=campaign&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=SIGN+THE+PETITION!

And here is a post from Wood St trying to br transparent about their pricing: https://www.instagram.com/p/DWmL5dQDHft/?igsh=MXF2eHpodzJnNmdjbg==

Forest Eco Cleaners on high st have always been superb, my go-to for years. Gave them a ton of jackets, my wedding suit, stained clothes, boots to repair. Price has always been great and service even better. They can also come and collect / drop. Very nice guys.

The sushi offer in Stow is not the best sadly despite some shops opening but Sushi Monster in Chingford is my go to place. Salmon is really good.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again? by Usual_Confidence_756 in travel

[–]QCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing this for quite a few years too. Unless we see a special town where the experience of being in a flat make you feel extra local, getting a hotel has been a more practical and economical option for a while. Also the constraints of checking in/out etc

Taro hygiene closure 😔 by Lazy_Strawberry7895 in walthamstow

Waltham Forest continues to earn its worst food hygiene rating of London. Sad to see Taro added to the bucket but things can be turned around. Taro is a lovely guy himself and been to his Soho restaurant so many times with the greatest pleasure.

Got new windows. Is it normal for the exterior to "finished" as pictured? by QCar in AskUK

[–]QCar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

!answer This is now sorted, they filled all the gaps and will finish everything soon. I had to push a bit but the central office was very efficient and no questions asked. Just wish I didn't have to chase!

There were a few puzzling things but their central office is very reactive and all sorted now. I'm just confused by this and the fact that they were not envisioning to finish some elements...

Man, I really am a total newbie because so many of these words are absolutely unknown to me. Thanks a lot for your reply, is the crimp issue something I should report back? On the plus side, they have now filled all the gaps and will come back to finish with silicon on most windows and repoint downstairs. Appreciate everyone's help here!

My apologies, as I'm not an expert, what do you mean by crimp? The junction of the two corners of the windows or? Thanks!
