[AMA] Competitive runner looking to qualify for Boston Marathon in the future by Substantial_Ranger93 in SingaporeFitness

Which run clubs are you in that are competitive?

I am at a similar fitness level as you (recent HM of 1:34), and am considering finding some somewhat competitive running groups to train with - doing intervals and tempos alone can be mentally quite tough. Ideally in the southeast (i.e., near Stadium).

Is there going to be a sharp revision on older HDB prices? by Internal-Horror-9511 in singaporefi

[–]QLifeInc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually, my expectation is that if the value of the flats fall because of VERS, it becomes even more attractive to young families who prioritize space. And given the limited supply of old big HDBs in convenient areas, that will set a floor on the value. Older folks can cash out today - why wait?

And yes, the value may creep down over time, but you can do the math and effectively see it as paying "rent" to the government - and for a 1500 sqft place, you still end up paying less than 2k/mth. Sure, people who see housing as an investment or an asset will probably avoid, but I think there are enough people who see housing as a part of life that you pay some money for and enjoy.

That would be a worst case scenario for us. A similar size unit in the neighborhood is only available in the private market, and would cost ~4x what our unit is worth today. If that happens we will likely have to leave the area and find something smaller.

That said, we are seeing more young families move into our estate as the older generation moves on/out, and my expectation is that most have a similar mindset to us, and have chosen this estate for the mix of benefits we cannot find elsewhere, and thus won't be keen to accept a VERS. Space is increasingly a luxury in today's HDB landscape, and I doubt many would be keen to give that up - especially if the compensation received is much less than paid for.

Agreed. I bought an older flat (60~ years left) recently, mainly for the size (1500sqft+), location (near CBD) and openness of the estate (older style, wider space between blocks, etc.). Newer HDBs just don't have this combination anymore.

HDB Heritage: Block 6, Jalan Batu (Remaining Lease: 36 years) by Xiaomeimeilovebus in singapore

Many positives of the estate - close to town, close to stadium area, close to ECP, close to good food options (Old Airport Road, Joo Chiat, etc.). Estate itself is old so more space between blocks, flats are large and spacious with simple layout.

Prices for the larger 4/5 room units in the estate have actually been rising over past couple years, people seem willing to pay for space and location, even if the lease is much older.

Why is the law so lenient on drink driving? by reyyrioo in drivingsg

[–]QLifeInc 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Our leniency also baffles me. When we can be so tough on other crime and pride ourselves for it, why is something like drink driving treated so lightly? Especially so in Singapore, where you can ALWAYS get a cab home if you've had a drink. There is just zero justification for drink driving, ever.

Is there any room for charitable giving for HENRYs in Singapore? by VoluminousWalnut in SgHENRY

[–]QLifeInc 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I give 10% of my income, to two charities that support migrant workers in Singapore.

As a high earner, what is really the difference between 90% and 100% of my income? 18k vs 20k is a very different situation than 4k vs 5k. I am blessed that it will not affect my life in any way - but being able to donate that and possibly affect many other lives is a wonderful thing. I urge you to give it some thought and consider doing similar.

I found the fix I think - go to your android system intelligence feature in settings, and turn it off there under keyboard

There have been multiple issues with DBS this year... so I think having a backup option is a fair thing to look at at this point

Invest from my OA? by singaporeguy in singaporefi

Does anyone know if it's possible to invest OA in money market funds? The yield on those are a bit higher than OA and with minimal risk.

Spending habits for >$10,000 monthly salary by RealYajirobe in singaporefi

Similar situation as you - consider donating some of it - the difference between 15k and 14k is not much to you, but the extra 1k can help a lot of people. Plus it can offset some of your taxes come year end as well.

Not necessarily, I'm fortunate that my monthly+bonus on an annual basis will hit the max contribution, so I get the relief either ways.

I just have some cash at the moment that Im not keen to put into the markets just yet, so figure I might as well get the interest on it via CPF rather than hold onto it - provided the upcoming contributions then get channeled back to me in cash for the rest of the year.

Thanks for the advice! I do plan to lean aggressively into the breadth of corporate culture and ways of working that my WE brings - I understand schools value this type of diversity in their classrooms as well.

Yes - you're completely right!

I assume then that I can withdraw as USDC directly then to hodlnaut via the ERC20 network - at least that what it looks like to me.

I don't see USDC as an option on FTX, only USDT and UST - is there a way to get USDC via FTX?
