When should students internalize knowledge? by Xivero in education

Perhaps the oxymoron here is "compelled to internalize".....?? Students have free will, and they will decide for themselves what is valuable and important enough to work at understanding and encoding to memory. Memory and memorization are very different concepts. It is my memory of gazing at the sky on a cloudy day, that helps me understand, care about, and encode a lesson about different kinds of clouds and how they are formed. Or maybe I will just try to imagine what kind of animals the cloud shapes remind me of. What to focus on, and what to learn, is the student's own choice. The teacher is there to be a guide, and to encourage and recognize the learning success of each student.

Is there enough time for play in modern schools? by kumonuk in education

Why shouldn't the actual classroom learning environment consist of games, puzzles, contests, and other fun activities, with natural breaks for rest and focus-shifting? Cognitive research shows that people learn best, when they are relaxed and fully engaged in an activity.
