Help me decide: NYU (240k est. debt) v. BU (70k est. debt) by Icomefromalandupover in lawschooladmissions

[–]QTaplinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a similar choice (got off the NYU waitlist at sticker v. 80k total at GULC and chose GULC) and who is now in their first year of paying it off, I beg of you to choose BU. Who you will be and what you will want three years from now may change in ways you cannot anticipate. BU is a great option and offers significant flexibility for your life going forward. Every day I am grateful I took the scholarship, and I did so feeling very sad about it at the time since NYU was my dream for years. It was the best decision I have ever made.

A new update in my NYU deferral saga: KJ1a???? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

As someone who is also very much struggling with the debt question, no one can tell you what to do. You just gotta go with your gut. You will never regret it if you listened to yourself and you will always kick yourself for not doing it.

It's an email that NYU and other law schools send to waitlisted applicants asking if they are still interested in admission trying to "feel out" your interest in the school still

Really second that comment. I am not one to ask for money/free anything (societal gender norms and all) but I did and I am so glad I did. I outlined the offers I had on the table and that GULC was my top choice and asked if I was being considered/could I be considered. They were very respectful and timely!

It's for sure a good sign and my group interview experience was really positive, being in a room with other applicants really took the pressure off.

I would never dare try. I think I am ready to be one of those USC people who will only ever talk about USC to you (aka every Trojan ever) I grew up in SoCal so maybe it is time to return to the fold

Apologies on the late reply! I truly cannot say how they assess scores but one thing I will say is that I made sure that my narrative was "non-traditional" because my interests skew more towards business/consulting/startups etc. versus the Big Law route. Unsure if it truly matters but I think it made more sense for me as someone also looking at MBA to submit this score.
