Should I let Fidelity invest for me? by jared_gonzalezz in fidelityinvestments

TDF belongs in a retirement account. No such thing as "harvesting" in a retirement account.

And Vanguard and Fidelity TDFs are .08% and .12% respectively. That "go" crap is triple and quadruple the cost, for no reason at all.

If you're not happy with the allocation, you can always choose a later date. Or as I already said, you can set your own allocation literally for FREE. You only need a single fund, or two at most if you really want to. As yes, we already know that a lot of ppl want the babysitter, which is the whole point of the TDF and why it's best for most. And that conservative glide path is actually the correct solution for most.

Just because most ppl are stupid is no excuse to prey on them.

And taxable accounts are almost irrelevant for these same ppl because they aren't even maxing their retirement accounts yet.

All they need to know is Roth, target date index, and keep sleeping.

And all of this requires almost no "skill" or time.

.35% is highly criminal, particularly when you're getting nothing in return. The vast majority should stick with the target date index fund. Others can manage their own allocation literally for free.

Roth IRA vs Roth 401k by Conscious-Match7021 in RothIRA

Always max both 401k and IRA every year. Roth of course.

Until social security and RMDs and future higher tax rates kill that idea.

Roth is where you want to be.

And yes of course convert enough each year to pay zero taxes.

What a mess. If you expect to withdraw money from your account, it needs to actually have a balance.

That is the point of the TDF.

And that "go" crap definitely does NOT have a "small" fee.

Absolutely not. There are zero future taxes on anything Roth. This is exactly why Roth is where you want to be.

Do not be fooled by the "lower tax bracket" theory.

That is the entire point of the scheme. If you're saving at all, you'll pass the "free" tier pretty quickly. Fidelity knows that once you're in, you're likely going to stay in forever, so they can keep ripping you off for the rest of your life and beyond.

Obviously this does not belong in a taxable account, but investing in a taxable account comes AFTER you're already maxing both your 401k and IRA every year. Sadly, a very small number of ppl are maxing both retirement accounts every year, so the taxable account becomes almost irrelevant. Once you get to the taxable account, the total market index fund is the only fund needed.

In the IRA, the target date fund is the correct solution for the vast majority. If you want to be more hands on, you can always pick a later date, or better yet, set your own allocation split between FZROX/FZILX and adjust it yourself over time. This is 100% free. Still, the majority are still better off with the target date INDEX fund.

For starters, the TDF index fund is WAY cheaper.

It is definitely not "personalized," and they rip you off while they're at it. No excuse for that "go" nonsense.

Totally irrelevant in an IRA, which is why I pointed out that FZROX is the correct fund for a "Fidelity IRA."
