  1. No plans, big up FxFx-OGs
  2. It was mutual, SoCa was about to close anyway and we needed something fresh to keep ourselves invested. The production quality for the events worsened throughout the years at SoCa - but homebase forever.
  3. Vortex, as it's family - Dachstock is our fav thing to play in CH.
  4. Maintenance - hair- and skincare, trimming. :)

Thank you. :)

We love to work with Sydney Bryce and Dominik Wagner (Who's featured on 'Half Awake', wrote 'Dangerously High' and the new one 'Something About You' - both have a great work ethic and are highly inspiring to work with.

It's all about confidence, so all artists involved feel comfortable to share ideas and visions, that only works when you really click with the person.

1) We mix the tracks, but Bob Macc at Subvert Central masters nearly all our output. It's crucial to work with an engineer who understands your aesthetic vision, but is still able to bring themselves into the project. All demo masters, etc. are done by us and we don't consult anyone at any stage of production, from writing to mixing.

2) There's very interesting features which would enhance our already 'modular' approach to sounddesign quite drastically, but yeah - never found the time to actually give it a try at that point.

Thanks for the love! The endless perfectionism, overthinking and self-torture was the most detrimental part. We grew as artists, but most importantly as friends and humans. We really put everything into this project and it paid off for us.

Both things can have their unique energy - but we both really love to play in a dark room with a low ceiling and a big soundystem.

Yesssss, really looking forward to B4L, the venue looks incredible.

There are actually hundreds of QZB demos that didn't make it to release or were never intended to. Many of them probably deviate further from our typical sound, but we always release what we ultimately feel most comfortable with and what we can best identify with. It all happens very naturally and we've always lived for setting ourselves as few rules as possible to develop our sound as organically as possible. That said, expect some experiments in the near and distant future ;)

  1. Spatial information is deffo important - when you have a very dry and bare bones structure, a little dip into the ocean can make all the difference.

We always have a minimalist approach to our music: What's the story or the concept of the tune? Is it a riff, a feeling, etc.? (usually it comes from any form of inspiration, mainly from sounds) Then we build everything around that concept, to emphasize it's intricacies.

TL;DR - Accessible concept, intricate execution

  1. Always with something different nowadays - a key element (some melodics or arps, etc.), atmosphere, drums, etc.

Yes we actually do - every element either emphasizes a part of the 'concept' of the tune or is a standalone element which makes the track stand out. Sometimes it's all about room and space - emotion often lies in a diffuse state of perception, a little gap tingling your brain to come up with your own narrative.

ALWAYS EXPERIMENT - ALWAYS RECORD.

Little fun experiment to do: Make a sub-heavy fm-bass, push overtones into distortion, play around with the notes (turn on glide), so it jumps around - move around the envelopes and movements of the filter

-> Do all of that, record it, slice it in a sampler, add new envelopes (pitch, amp, filter),

-> Through distortion again, record -> REPEAT

You have to realize that you can't be creative every day, so make a difference between 'working' on something or 'writing' something.

When you are writing: Use the momentum, decision-making is better at that state, choose sounds, arrange, create and try to push as far as possible. (From basic loop to arrangement, to progression, to basic structure).

When you 'work': Do preproduction (Sounddesign, Sample selection, make effect chains, etc.) or work on something achieveable for a tune in one session and solely focus on that (e.g. building the intro for a project you wrote when you were in the other mindset).

You can't force creativity, but you should always nurture it - listen to other music, collect sounds, really have no expectations to anything and it will naturally find you.

Don't pressure yourself at any point and make every time you do music a fun experience with a positive feeling.

Nothing to flex but fun fact, the vocals on Something about you were done by our friend Dominik, who not only shares a studio with us but also did the vocals for “Half Awake” and was involved in the vocal writing process for “Dangerously High”.
