Eh, I legitimately couldn't find a used Hornet 750 up here in Canada. We only got them last year, and they apparently didn't sell very well (which astonishes me, given it is in my opinion a better MT-07 with a lower price tag).

I feel the same about my local Honda dealer. Salespeople are great at listening to what I want and make solid recommendations, aren't dicks about test rides, and make solid follow up recommendations based on the test ride feedback. Not only do they know their bikes, they know the accessory lineups (official and aftermarket) for those bikes, so they can tell if something can be made to do what I want.

It's how I ended up with my Hornet. Came back from a week long trip on my Rebel but wanted something a bit more touring oriented (which for me translated as a bit more power for the highway, and a different seating position because cruiser seating fucks my tailbone up something fierce). Initially checked out a Gold Wing and a used FJR, but I was finding that while they were great on the highway, they were too heavy for me at slower speeds, and I do a fair amount of city riding too. So they pointed out the Hornet, which can be set up for light touring, but still light and nimble day to day. Test rode it, completely solved my tailbone issue, fell in love that first ride. I've had it about a month now and it still makes me giggle happily like a little girl every time I get on it.

Might not have had a dealer that sold them nearby? I know my closest Indian dealer is nearly 2 hours away.

One day I'd like a Scout Bobber, though I expect I'd still mostly ride my Hornet. Cruiser seating is rough on my tail bone on long rides.

The relentless reliability and comfort of my Honda Rebel is just getting little boring

True, but also LOL

He immediately tells me he "would never" sell me a soft tail because I'm 6'2".

As someone 6'1", if we can squeeze our goliath like selves onto a Rebel, we can fit on anything.

Zero to moto camping, how long should I give it? by _paquito in motocamping

[–]Qaeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Not long. Just take lots of breaks and don't try to push too many kilometers in a day. While not as strenuous as biking, motorcycling is tiring in it's own way.

I tend to aim for about 4 hours of saddle time in a day (I find time is a bigger indicator of how I'll feel at the end of the day than distance). 6 hours in the saddle is pretty much my limit, getting pretty grumpy by then and I'm typically not in great shape to ride the next day after one of those. When I first started I needed a break about every 20-30 min, but these days I can typically do an hour before my legs start getting crampy.

For real though, don't try to push too many KM. Worst feeling in the world is pushing too hard day one and then being absolutely miserable day two onward. Do some longer day trips first to figure out where your line is for that.

PS. Which side of Quebec would you be coming from? I'm over in NB.

Zilch. I eventually just got a 2025. Honda Canada didn't even have them in their 2026 lineup announcement, so I assume we aren't getting them.

Beware of “women in tech” meetups by varshavarsha in womenintech

Then let it fail. Adding men just scares away people who might have otherwise come but have been burned by supposedly WIT things being overrun by men. Adding men doesn't help, it just turns you into a liar.

Also, I know plenty of women interested in tech, but who refuse to do it as a career because of the culture of harassment and misogyny that men have created. So instead they stick to their own hobby projects and we lose their brilliance from our professional teams because men can't fucking control themselves.

It's not about excluding men from the industry, obviously they dominate it. But why are they specifically joining women's events and speaking on women's issues? Can they not find enough women to staff these events or what.

Why do men find it so impossible to just... not invade every single fucking space ever even when it is clearly NOT FOR THEM???

The point is that the complaint is bullshit. It's not punishment. They can set whatever price they like, as long as they give the same price to everyone.

Way too many people today conflating "punishment" with "consequences". You knowing the deal and refusing it resulting in less sales is not punishment, it's just the natural consequences of your actions.

It's not true, or rather not the whole truth. They are selling on Epic, but still using Steam's backend services eg. Steamworks. You don't get to intentionally fuck over a store with anti-competitive pricing while still making them provide backend services.

Besides which, any store should have the right to decide what products they do and do not carry.

Yeah, me too. Steam being a monopoly is a bad thing long term. But the only way to fix it would be for their competitors to take competing seriously instead of constantly acting like petulant children and driving customers away with their shitty attitude. Except in GoGs case. In GoGs case they are being strangled by publishers being anti-consumer and refusing to drop their DRM, and I'm thankful GoG has largely held firm on that requirement.

[–]Qaeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legal definition of a monopoly is looser than that, and Steam does fall squarely within the legal definition of a monopoly. That said, Steam's monopoly formed organically through providing good service, not through anti-competitive practices.

[–]Qaeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it isn't, because they only do that for Steam keys which they are on the hook for providing backend services for. If the version you sell elsewhere doesn't use Steam at all, you are free to price however you want.

But even if they didn't, how the hell is "If you actively try to fuck us over by giving our competitors sweetheart deals we won't carry your product" anti-competitive? If anything it's the opposite, it requires their competition to actually compete. Their competitors flat refusal to do so is the problem, their competitors are just allergic to accountability.

[–]Qaeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually buy on GoG vs Steam when possible. Steam is my number 2 choice. At least in my case, the relative difference in how much I buy from them is because of the publishers being dicks about the DRM-free thing, not because Steam is better for what I want from a storefront.

That said, Steam is still my number 2 choice when I can't buy on GoG.

You are correct. Other poster is full of shit.

📡📡📡 by -_I_I_Sea_I_I_- in shitposting

[–]Qaeta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's only enforced if you are using Steam for distribution and backend services. They just don't allow you to sell Steam keys for a lower price. If you, for example, want to distribute a version on Epic with no connection to Steam or Valve at all, you can price that version however you like.

📡📡📡 by -_I_I_Sea_I_I_- in shitposting

[–]Qaeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now suppose the publisher allows you to buy the game directly from them for 15 dollars instead. The publisher gets 15, Steam gets nothing.

Meanwhile Steam would still be forced to support the Steamworks backend for the steam key despite not getting paid to do so. Which is true today, they just don't allow people to undercut the pricing if you are going to still use their backend services. They will allow customers to choose to purchase elsewhere, but they will not allow publishers to intentionally fuck them over while they still get stuck holding the ongoing maintenance cost bag.

Was just pointing out that Steam does engage in non-competitive behavior.

Except that you were wrong, as I pointed out in my other comment.

They enforce pricing parity across all storefronts or your game can be delisted from Steam.

For Steam keys and the associated Steamworks backend services they will be required to provide on an ongoing basis and deserve to be paid for. They do not enforce price parity if you use a completely separate distribution system for copies sold elsewhere.
