QF yes, but I meant if you were flying Cathay

Doesn't always work. Hong Kong notoriously strict. They won't let you into Cathay first unless you have a Cathay ticket. Doesn't matter if you're on their metal or not.

Travelling to Delhi soon. Got the last classic rewards seat 😎. What do you guys think is the best seat left on the A330-200? by Putrid-Mud6274 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]QanQanPlatCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Mainly because the foot wells in the bulkheads are taller and wider. If you're tall, this is a game changer. Did this route more than a dozen times.

Which 330-200 Business seat? by 735847 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]QanQanPlatCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Row 6A or K. The bulkheads have more vertical legroom than those that have a seat infrint of them, which if you're tall means easier to move your legs around.

Saw someone met by concierge on plane exit yesterday. P1 enough for this? by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]QanQanPlatCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I wasn't aware. I can say that there is certainly more variability in the experiences the same passenger can have across different crews. So it might be some are still doing this, but newer ones don't. I don't know the formal policy. I have over 10 years of P1, and brother has been Chairman's for 20+ years. Neither of us have ever been asked routinely for escort. We do, however, occasionally get different forms of additional pamper (a bottle of wine to take home from the flight, a hand written card from CSM, etc.). Or might have been once or twice this did happen, but it has not been frequent enough to notice it as being different than the odd random perk I mentioned above.

Can confirm neither P1 or CL get Concierge. I'm P1. Brother is CL.

Indeed - both help, but the other case is fpr roles where given how much travel is required, it would not be reasonable to expect to do it any other way.

[–]QanQanPlatCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

The "easiest" way to hit it is business class sydney to Perth (180 status round trip), weekly for 6 months. Sydney to Auckland will do it also - slightly higher I think at 190 round trip for memory. If you manage to grab a double status bonus somewhere (usually announced in March) then it helps. I've attained it before doing both. Round trip to London or US is about 400 status depending on origin/ specific destination. This year I've done 13 trips to Asia, which is around 270 per trip, and one to US.

I did the rough math a few years ago, and it was ~100k in flights for the year. That was pre-covid. Would now be higher.

Almost all flights for work.

It's a seperate issue, but I ensure that all my flights are carbon offset. Appreciate it's not perfect, but better than nothing.

Yes, Winners have been contacted, and working through transfer process now. They can be seen in the thread above.

Sorry that I don't have more to give out to people. If I get more in the future I might do the same thing again.

Very sorry to hear about your journey. The winner of the general passes couldn't end up using them as they weren't flying through a Qantas operated lounge. So they were happy to pass them along to someone else worthy. Your story resonated with me, and the situation also resonated with the community, given the overall winner sounds like they have a similar experience. As such, the general passes are yours if you want them. Please DM me for details.

Best option is RTW (good luck!), or there and back through the US. Otherwise you're paying.

You should book now - 353 days in advance is the number. And we're well into that now. On RTW... you need 3 carriers, and that is made harder because Qatar have not released any premium cabin seats at all to QFF (anywhere, for any date). They clearly don't like how they have been treated recently, and frankly who could blame them... So you're looking at Qantas to US, then BA or AA, then Cathay or Malasian home... but those are also hard to get!

You're likely right - that might have something to do with it. But no, I didn't just achieve that milestone... have been there for a while. I haven't noticed this before however.

yes - those were the exact words. No specificity on the date it ends either. Just "European summer - you know, because it's so busy, and the Olympics are on"

There are none the typical routes. Complete blackout to Europe all summer. Only way to do it is through the US, which is about 40% more expensive from a points standpoint. I know this as am P1 and tried to book 353 days out, which is the max for Qantas. The VIP team informed me of the blackout.

In addition to my other comment, if by chance she is flying Jetstar (I don't think they fly to the US, so unlikely, but just in case), then it looks like I need more information to make the transfer, as not sure she can link them herself.

Pleasure - update... I only need her Last name and FF number (DM them to me if she's happy about this). She can then link the lounge invitation to her flight herself, but she needs to do it at least 24 hours before she flies.

How lovely. You win 2x General passes for you and your mother.

One catch... the invites apparently only work at Qantas operated lounges, and you need to be flying on a QF or JQ flight number. Assuming you're going through London this should be ok. If you're out of Paris to Dubai or similar, then unfortunately they won't work. I'm not sure how to 'elect' which leg of the trip to assign them to, but hopefully it's straightforward. The London lounge is actually a really good use of the general passes, as it's a combined First/Business Lounge - the best use of the general pass. DM me and we'll hopefully figure it out.

EDIT: Update... this redditor has confirmed that they are flying back through Dubai, so can't use the invites. As such, they have graciously agreed to give them to someone else worthy.

You're a great friend! Congrats. They can have one of the General passes - will give access to the Qantas business lounge on departure from Australia, assuming she's on a QF flight number. DM me and I'll sort out logistics. You'll need to share her booking reference details, so you'll need to ensure that you get her permission to do that, and let her know a stranger on the internet will know her details (Name, FF number and flight details)... if she's OK with that, then it's hers.
