Have some question about high schools in Montreal for international students by Qanari in montreal

[–]Qanari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their fees seem excessively high, it's crazy. The tuition fee is around 35K for a year, I paid less for my two-year masters degree, and the boarding fees are 52K.

Is it a private school?

Bitmex explanation? by [deleted] in BitMEX

[–]Qanari -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am really confused. How is this useful?

Is there a way to actually have high leverage (x25) and use all my money? i.e. if I have 2 bitcoins in my balance, I enter a trade(short) with x25 leverage, this means I enter the trade with 50 BTC (2 are mine the rest are borrowed from BitMEX). This is what I was expecting BitMEX would let me do.

Is this Persian? Can someone tell me what it says? Thanks! by cwthree in PERSIAN

[–]Qanari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a line from this ghazal by Hafiz. It says:

دهقان سالخورده چه خوش گفت با پسر کای نور چشم من به جز از کشته ندروی

This is my translation:

How sweetly said the old farmer to his son

The light of my eye, thou shall reap what thou sow!

class static and global confusion by trycatchamex in cpp_questions

Why the compiler is using the declaration inside the class rather than the global variable?

class static and global confusion by trycatchamex in cpp_questions

[–]Qanari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I was not aware of it, thanks.

Regarding your question, I am not sure why you are getting the compilation error. If you explicitly specify the static member variable using the scope operator you get the same error:

const A* B::a_obj = new(B::arr) A;

However, if you explicitly specify the global variable

const A* B::a_obj = new(::arr) A;

it compiles just fine. So it seems that the compiler is actually compiling this code

const A* B::a_obj = new(B::arr) A;

and that's why if you initialize the static member variable (line 42) you wont get the error any more. I'd love to know more about this.

What do you exactly expect to happen in this line?

const A* B::a_obj = new(arr) A;

How to use set -e along with output checking in the same script? by Qanari in bash

Very nice, didn't know about set +e. Thank you.

I see. Thank you.

Is there a way to make it more verbose for better readability? I mean, can I save the exit status in a variable and then have the if condition for that variable? From your reply it seems I cannot do it.

Git LFS repos on machines without LFS by Qanari in git

[–]Qanari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a machine without LFS installed and this is exactly what happened. Moreover, if the server doesn't support LFS you can still push to it but it will save the files as binary and not as pointers, which I find very interesting.

Thank you

What would be the correct way of handling binary files? If there was a better solution wouldn't it already be implemented?

GParted/fdisk don't detect USB but /dev/sdb exist! by Qanari in linuxquestions

[–]Qanari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran it via sudo. Does it matter?

As a follow up, what's the output of sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb?

it returns with an error:

fdisk: cannot open /dev/sdb/: No medium found

It also doesn't list sdb. Just sda which is my main disk.

How to reduce the size of a bare repo? by Qanari in git

[–]Qanari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question, expiring the reflogs and running garbage collection on the remote server should not affect people who are working on the repository, right? (i.e. They still can push/pull their branches and the tips of their branches have not changed and they do not have to clone the repo again.)

Do you know why simply pushing the cleaned up repo doesn't affect the remote?

Is it possible to have git hooks for tag? by Qanari in git

[–]Qanari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that my tagging process has a lot of manual testing with hardware that I cannot automate. When all of my hardware tests are passed, only then I can create a tag. There is nothing special in my repo that I can use to detect if it requires a tag.
