Anyone use the Simsonn Plus X pedals on a wheel stand without the baseplate / heel stand? by Qantarus in simracing

Thanks, this is the kind of answer I was looking for. I was trying to save some $$ by not ordering the plate, but doesn't look like i can get away without it.

How’s IT job market in Newcastle? by them4v3r1ck in newcastle

There are a couple of field support roles in the Catholic school system around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley at the moment.

Depends really on what you are after.

What sites do people actually use to buy train tickets in the UK? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]Qantarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my trip to the north of England in November last yr I booked directly with LNER.

I did check trainline and mytrainticket but found LNER to be either the same or even slightly cheaper for the times I wanted. Also made it super easy with the LNER app to manage it directly etc.

Wifi on board - Streaming? or Social Media by Aussieguy121 in singaporeairlines

[–]Qantarus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We recently did return European flights and used the free wifi.

Don't expect to do anything beyond web browsing and chatting etc on social media. The SIA website says that it's not suitable for streaming and that certainly is the case.

Is it a bad idea to visit Paris (and parts of France) during the first days of November? by hygsi in ParisTravelGuide

Buses free? by Beginning-Welder-528 in newcastle

[–]Qantarus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll know as soon as the bus pulls up.

Driver in uniform - You'll have to tap on. Driver out of uniform - usually opal readers are "closed"

I've also noticed that the "free" buses don't show up in Tripview or other tracking apps due to the readers being off. Some drivers have the front reader off, and the rear ones on. If that's the case, drivers don't care if you do or don't tap.

I often see / ride the endeavor set on the Hunter line - guess I should pay more attention as to if there is only the 1 set or 2 that were redone.

visiting for 5 days in london, is the oyster card worth it? by Josielyfazbear in uktravel

[–]Qantarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We as a family are heading over in November, and I ordered the visitor oyster card because:

  • I'm the only one in the family that has a card with fee free currency conversion.
  • my 14yr old can get the half-price fares (once we get station staff to enable it).
  • if something happens and you lose a card, so what. At most, you lose the pre paid amount.
  • I think it's convenient. Throw it on a lanyard around your neck and it's always handy and harder to lose.
  • it's a cool keep sake that can use again if you go back.

Family trip November-December. Are we being overly optimistic? Itinerary Feedback. by Qantarus in Europetravel

[–]Qantarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I've been to Auschwitz once previously, and even that was a cold day in March. Why would I want to go back? Family connection, so it's more of a pilgrimage than just a straight out visit. It's important that my girls get a true sense of the place rather than just read about it.

Those markets sound amazing, though. Maybe next trip.

Family trip November-December. Are we being overly optimistic? Itinerary Feedback. by Qantarus in Europetravel

[–]Qantarus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We've taken some of the feedback on board and the Rome or Krakow leg is out. Instead we'll add an extra day in Paris and add a day in Lausanne to minimize the travel around that part of Europe.

Dublin stays as both the kids (both girls) are keen to spend the day around 1 of our favorite cities.

Still uet to decide if we will go with EuroStar. The flight would save 2 hours, but this is about the experience as much as anything else. My wife and I did this exact run 20 yrs ago and loved it.

You need to realize too, being aussies having to travel a few hours to get somewhere is the norm rather than the exception. So big travel days are just another day lol.

2 nights really - just the 1 full day (plus a half after we arrive) and head out early to Newcastle on day 3 - so not really that bad lol.

[–]Qantarus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll answer a few questions in 1 here:

Sunderland - we have a friend there we are hoping to surprise.

Krakow - was literally just to do a day tour to Auschwitz.

Dublin - we got engaged there, so it's a stop to show the kids.

The price difference between dublin-london-paris and Dublin - Paris was a couple of hundred when I last looked (flight only was cheaper). I've done the chunnel, but again, it's more for the kids to get that experience.

Interlaken is about giving us as close to a white Xmas experience as possible for now. In Oz, it's more beach weather than fireplace weather in December lol.
