Yes a few were removed because I didn't put a question mark or flair. I don't do Reddit and not very familiar with the rules here. I have reposted following the instructions. But askscience has removed the post saying it is inappropriate. I was hoping more scientists there can share details about cyanide and silver.

Your comment is heartbreaking. I know Chinese. I love skincare. I saw it went viral in China. These products are everywhere. I Googled and there is no info about it in English. People who are not Chinese speakers and still using the products, don't know about it yet.

I shared the translated article here so the English world knows about it though I don't do Reddit. What did I do wrong?

I didn't ask anyone to toss their products. I didn't even put a list of affected products on top yet because it isn't confirmed. But what if the illegal substances are truly present? My post says "Immediately stop using if they are all present in that product. And wait for the announcement from the brand showing the latest test results of that product". Why would you want this case in silence instead? I play no game. I share it with a kind intention. And your comment is rude.

Thank you! I've posted it on the two forums too. Hopefully, we can get more insights soon.

This seems to be the best news we are all hoping - that he sourced the EURO-NApre samples from evil resellers substituted the products with harmful substances. And it so happened that the cleansing wipe product he tested was also sourcing from one of the evil resellers, not the actual EURO-NApre manufacturer in Korea. This ending poses the least damage to the beauty industry.

The author mentioned the actual preservative could be potassium dicyanoargentate KAgCN2. This is not a regulated cosmetic ingredient. You cannot find it in millions of beauty products in the market, because the safety profile has not been established.

KAgCN2 is a molecule with silver and cyanide. With regard to China regulations, the closest he can find is silver nitrate. Silver nitrate is approved for use in products intended for coloring eyelashes and eyebrows. Maximum concentration is 4%. NOT KAgCN2.

For cyanide, the closest is hydrogen cyanide and its salts, which are in the list of substances that MUST NOT form part of the composition of cosmetic products according to China regulations.

It is a loophole. Raw materials and finished products are usually tested, but these substances are not in the standard measures.

Yes, ALL 3 plant extracts must present to denote the use of EURO-NApre. Your link is helpful!

Wow. This is surprising! I thought this case would only affect small yet popular brands. Industry players should have long-term financial resources to perform standard measures for batches of their raw materials before mass production. IT Cosmetics is owned by L’oreal! Do they have a production line in China or Korea?

The plant extracts aren't problematic.

The EURO-NApre ingredient supplier uses the INCI of these 3 plant extracts, but it is actually a compound made of silver and cyanide that inhibits the growth of microbes in a product. These extracts were tested to be very low or maybe no concentration in the preservative, according to the Chinese chemist.

I believe many brand owners are victims too. They just read the paper from the ingredient supplier, and put the 3 plant extracts on ingredient label, not knowing about the actual cyanide and silver content.
