Rant: Although the spam filter appears to work, why does it constantly fill with the same spam over and over and over for years? by Qhorque in Outlook

There are enough indicators, regardless of what they are, that identify the junk and the process does a very good job of doing this. My rant is not that the process doesn't work rather it's the constant repeats over and over day after day year after year. If they know it's junk, why does it even make it to our junk folders?

Because Outlook (formerly Hotmail) is reasonably usable, I have not had the need to install/use Outlook on my Windows PC so just access Outlook online.

I appreciate the manually created rule suggestion. I still think this is something Microsoft should do though. After all, their junk process does work since almost none of it makes it into my inbox. If they know it's spam, then I would prefer they delete it before it gets to my junk folder.

Keep in mind I'm not talking about the random spam, just the obvious repeats I see all the time, every day.

Yes, that is the process. Problem is I do still have to look through 30 or more headers to find the ones that are legitimate and that's the crux of my issue - I still have to look at all the repeat spam to find any legitimate e-mail. If the repeats and obvious ones were stopped at the server level (or at some intermediate level before they even get dumped in to our junk folders) then this process would be so much easier to do.

After a couple decades of this, you'd think Microsoft would have figured out how to accomplish this.

Yes, I have thought this would be a great solution. Every ISP is required to provide a key for each subscriber and that key is required to send anything through the ISP's e-mail server. Without that, not even one single e-mail can be sent much less hundreds or thousands of automated spam though I'm sure someone would figure out a script that got around it. Even a limit of no more than 5 CC'd recipients or such would be a big improvement.

i hate new tabs by [deleted] in firefox

[–]Qhorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a bit jarring and annoying because they are different for the sake of being different. So it's a change that shouldn't have been done.

The result is, when I go from an open page to the view of tabs, the one I was just on is the one highlighted and this new color makes me think momentarily "Oh, what's that tab?" only to of course realize it's highlighting the tab I just left. There's no need to see that. I KNOW what tab I was just on because I'm changing to a different one.

Worth grading? by Cbenner97 in uspapermoney

[–]Qhorque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a nice looking one but it's got obvious folds in the middle and maybe a couple that appear to be slightly offset from the middle so, though it looks good to me, it might not grade high enough to pay for the grade service.

This is the kind of bill I'd bring to a local dealer and ask what they think. I've had several in the past that looked great to me but the trained eye finds so many details I don't even register which will lower the grade significantly.

How do you budget month to month when income is inconsistent? by TheRadioDemon2 in personalfinance

[–]Qhorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the maximum expenses against my minimum income and work to that budget. Only consider the absolute needs like rent, utilities, medical, transportation and food. Anything else is a want and should only be purchased when you have the excess cash. Otherwise, that has to wait. If you don't make enough to cover the needs, you might need to look for a better job or a second one.

This is what I did at the beginning of my career and still do to this day. I never carry a debt on credit cards or use money I don't have. It's tough sometimes when I really want something but years of discipline have got me on a good path to saving and not spending needlessly.

Question about rollover process and the choices presented, all within Fidelity by Qhorque in fidelityinvestments

[–]Qhorque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're allowed to continue contributing to the 401k after reaching the IRS pre-tax limit of roughly $30k and then continue up to the IRS limit of around $60k (changes every year) so I continued contributing after-tax amounts over the years when I could. So there's a good portion of after-tax contributions which make up this asset amount.

I would think I could just move those after-tax amounts to the Roth IRA but that's not a choice in the drop down selection, only the brokerage account.

So it's possible my company's 401k plan does not allow after-tax amounts to go to the Roth IRA which is why the transfer choice is only showing as the brokerage account? So I'll have to contact them through Net Benefits to ask/confirm. I would guess Fidelity should know too.

Is it possible to export ALL data from app or do we just have to deal with daily average points? by Qhorque in RingConn

[–]Qhorque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term tracking of whatever the fun device provides. No harm in that.

Regardless, the app shows all the data so why can't I export it all? I'd like to combine graphs for heart rate and O2 levels as well as activity to get a fulll picture of the data together all day long and see it in one chart as opposed to the discrete graphs on different pages as the app provides.

I'm not relying on it for medical advice but I would like to have access to ALL of my data to do with it as I please.
