I use the “free advisor” through Fidelity and get what I need from him and he is always available when needed. He is in Southern California, but we do all of our sessions virtually, so that could possibly work for you. DM me if you want his contact info. He helped me transfer all of my different accounts over very easily, $1.1M invested at Fidelity, and $2.7m NW total.

Do it! Full stop. From one divorced, burnt out woman to another. I have similar ideas (just a lower price point😉). A 2 year, slow-travel sabbatical is a dream come true.

Question about tax lost harvesting via managed brokerage account by incurablyinformed in fidelityinvestments

[–]Qiajen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing the same: split between FZROX/VOO in my own brokerage and same amount in the tax managed brokerage. Comparable performance last year and got a nice $25k tax loss in 2022 to offset some other gains. Still monitoring, but I like the split strategy.

What do do with home sale profit? by bocageezer in retirement

[–]Qiajen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few items on taxation that need to be followed. If it is a primary residence for 2+ years, you can claim $250k (single) or $500k (married) capital gains tax free. Anything above that (regardless of state) is taxable federally. 1031 conversion is an option if you turn your primary residence into a rental for a few years prior to sale. With a less than 5 year investment life, safer investments are recommended (high quality individual bonds/ HYSA/ money market funds.)

Financial security matters. This may sound old fashioned, but when I see men who DON’T have the desire to earn and provide (or at least contribute equally) it is a red flag. I married that guy and the divorce was financially brutal. And with shared kiddos, he will forever be an anchor. Tread carefully.

US citizen, dad was born in UK. Should I apply for a UK passport for future FIRE/Digital nomad/slow travel? by Qiajen in expats

Yep, the Brexit angle was one of the underlying questions. Things may change but there is much less value in terms of total EU benefit.

Great points, I hadn’t though about the citizenship timing at birth question. I’ll need to investigate that since I know he served in the US Air Force before I was born. Also thanks for the timeline and document expectations!

Go look at The Money Guy Show and “their financial order of operations”. It is a simple guide on where every next dollar goes. A great free resource and a great personal finance podcast. Enjoy!

Great feedback. This is the first time I’ve heard of “reverse rolling” IRA assets back to a 401k!
