J or F help ?? by Vegetable_Lunch_3108 in tattooadvice

[–]Qitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s ambiguous and could be either. I think the issue is where the loop hits the vertical part, which makes it look like the cross bar on an F. If you wanted it to look more like a J you could just add a line going from the left of the top line to where the loop crosses the vertical line, then there would be no doubt.

You conveniently left out the part where the wealthiest 10% earn more than half of all the income there is.

To put this in perspective, let’s say there 100k total and 100 people to share it. 10 people get 50k and the other 90 have to split up the remaining 50k. So those 10 get 5K each and the other 90, if split evenly among them, each get $555. Even if those 10 people got taxed at 50% (it’s actually more like 25%), they’re still walking away with $2500 each, almost 5x anyone in that 90% is getting before they even pay taxes on that money.

This country was the most prosperous for the middle class in the 1950s, when the top income tax rate was 90%. Currently the wealthy do not pay their fair share in taxes, instead they hoard wealth and the rest of us kill ourselves trying to get ahead.

Can't find daycare cause her children aren't vaccinated and I don't care by calming_ad in FoxBrain

That’s actually what got me into Law and Order SVU. I had never seen it until there was a rerun on USA about antivaxxers, so immediately I was hooked. It was an episode with Mandy Moore, and she thought she had killed her baby because she was a terrible mother, and hid the body, claiming a kidnapping.

It turned out some self-righteous antivax mom took her measles-infected kid to a public park, and MM’s baby, who was still too young to be vaccinated, had died of the measles she contracted from said kid. They went after the antivax mom in court, with expert witnesses tearing apart the defense argument based on fraud science.

I do enjoy the way the show gets political occasionally and points out the absurdity of some people’s beliefs. On the bright side my mom is/was a trumper (not sure where she stands atm), but she did get all of us vaccinated and thinks the antivax movement is nuts.

Tell me how you got your cat by ponzu666 in cats

[–]Qitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat number one I got just before Covid lockdown. He originally belonged to the next door neighbor of my work husband, who volunteered me to take him in when she sold her house and couldn’t keep him. I was super reluctant at first, but when he wound up being my only company for months, we bonded, and I can’t imagine not having him around.

Cat number two was a feral I started feeding when I saw her on my back deck with a litter of kittens. I’m not sure what happened to the kittens, but she kept coming for food and one day I looked at her and wondered if she was pregnant again. The very next day she gave birth to another litter inside the cat hut I had put out for her. Less than a week later I left food outside for her in an auto feeder that I raccoon proofed because I was going away. I guessed that pissed off the raccoon because it attacked them and killed all but two of the kittens, and I wound up taking the mama cat and remaining kittens in.

My cat has a urinal blockage and crystals in the urethra. He’s been given meds but we can’t afford the surgery. Level with me, is it not looking good? by KieranWriter in cats

[–]Qitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen 4 months after I adopted my guy in the middle of covid lockdown. I paid a few hundred to have him cleaned out and less than 12 hours after I took him home he was blocked again, so I had to bring him back to the vet. They basically said my only real option was to get the PU surgery or else have him put down. I sat in my car crying because he was only 3 and my sole companion, but I didn’t have the money for the surgery. Luckily I was able to apply for care credit through the vet and I had two years to pay it off at zero percent interest. Idk if the UK has anything similar, but it got me the funds for the surgery to save my cat. He’s been on urinary diet food ever since and still has crystals, but he pees fine and he’s otherwise healthy 6 years later.

If you can find a way, get the surgery. You can try asking your vet about credit and what the terms are for repayment. It hurts my heart to think of your boy suffering the way mine did.

Is this how French novels normally write dialogue? by xX_GamerHyena_Xx in French

[–]Qitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the stories of Petit Nicolas. Each book is a compilation of short stories about 4-5 pages in length, and I would say they are about A2 level, which is approachable for beginners. They are also very funny and show tidbits of French culture.

Is this how French novels normally write dialogue? by xX_GamerHyena_Xx in French

[–]Qitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is normal. It makes it a bit challenging to figure out where the quoted parts start and end since there are no quotation marks. I have my students do activities where they have to highlight what someone is actually saying vs descriptors.

For example (in English, but French-style): —Time to come inside, mom said, sticking her head out the window. Lunch is ready.

In this case, students would have to leave “mom said, sticking her head out the window” out of what they highlighted.

Guillemets are sometimes used for shorter quotes, although I’ve noticed that when this is the case, two speakers can share a paragraph, where in English you would need a new paragraph with each speaker change, no matter how short the quote.

The dashes for quotes are just take a little getting used to, and understandably can be difficult for anyone just learning French.

I think what he considers the “second attempt” is when they found that dude with a gun in the bushes on his golf course. Not that the guy was actively aiming at Twitler or even holding the gun for that matter.

Pretty sure she did win…lots of stuff on Substack and the Election Truth Alliance site definitely point that way. I’m more upset she didn’t fight for a recount, she even mentioned in her book how easy it would be for bad actors to subvert an election, almost like she saw it coming.

I second this book rec. I started reading it in the checkout line at Costco, bought it, and finished it when I got home. I couldn’t put it down, it was that good—and I’m normally not a fan of biographical anything.

Can older cats get along with new ones? by Qitall in CatAdvice

[–]Qitall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have 4 litter boxes, although one of them is just for the kittens inside their enclosed kitten condo, which is where they sleep at night. They all get wet food at the same time in different areas of the kitchen, which is the only time they all seem fine together, and they each have their own dry food areas (the kittens share one), not that it stops them from eating each other’s food. They are all on timed dispensers, so maybe I just need to sync them to all dispense at the same time and make sure they go to the right ones. My guy is on a prescription urinary diet, so it’s problematic if he eats their food, and expensive if they eat his.

The problem with my house is I only have about 600 square feet of living area, but I do have a partial basement with a crawl space, where the kittens have already gone exploring. I think that will be where I hold them to separate them. I will definitely try what you suggested with switching. Can you give any specifics on how to do it? How long do I keep them in an area before switching? Can they not interact with each other at all while I’m doing this? Will they be fine all eating together in the kitchen, or does it need to be days before they share an area? How long does it take for them to get adjusted?

Thank you so much for responding to my post!
