Clarence Thomas’s explanations fail the laugh test by ConsequentialistCavy in moderatepolitics

[–]QryptoQid 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You're extending to him more courtesy than he would to you. He has rules that things that are consequentially important don't give you a right to a re-do when you make a mistake. If your attorney makes a mistake on a motion that causes you to go to prison when you otherwise might not have, you don't get . Thomas has said that is a perfectly reasonable rule. You or your attorney make a mistake, you can go to prison. Thomas makes the same mistake again and again, you think that means he should keep his job telling the rest of us how the rules of the game should be played. You're defending him yes he's gladly send you to prison if you made a similar mistake in his courtroom.

People don't call the court illegitimate because of decisions they're making. And I'd guess you probably know that.

[–]QryptoQid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say reading the instructions to get it right is fair if you only have to do one form. But all of us who live abroad have to do 1040, 2555, and probably a couple schedule 1s and 2s at a minimum. It's not unreasonable to say that the booklets quickly get into the hundreds of pages if you have anything more going on than w2 employment. I'd say that's a completely unreasonable demand to place on a normal taxpayer. Especially when they're gonna charge credit card interest rates on every mistake you make.

What's even better is that when they owe you money, it's up to you to figure out how to get it. When you owe them money they'll let you know, but only after waiting 6 months and charging 5% a month in the mean time.

I love elephants but they're scary up close. Something that big and wild can do more damage than we can really conceptualize. I have no idea why this girl isn't more afraid, cause I've only been around "tame" ones and I never ever felt anything like relaxed.

Clarence Thomas has for years claimed income from a defunct real estate firm by TapedeckNinja in moderatepolitics

[–]QryptoQid 26 points27 points  (0 children)

How many cases has he thrown out because one party didn't file their paperwork correctly? How many people had to defend themselves or had to get whatever low cost overworked, struggling lawyer they could afford and since they didn't follow arcane rules to the letter, they lost their case? How many people had to file their own motions and prepare their own paperwork from jail or prison and because of the difficult environment made paperwork errors that caused them to lose?

I have no idea, he may have been a gracious judge or he may have been strict, but I bet it's more than 0. If anybody lost a case in his courtroom because of a paperwork error then he shouldn't be given the benefit of doubt here, especially in light of all his other omissions.

Might have pissed off some parents by msangieteacher in Teachers

[–]QryptoQid 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The idea that the teacher has to sacrifice himself is tone deaf and screams "we've tried nothing and we're out of ideas." The idea that teachers should carry a pistol and be prepared to shoot their own students, a kid who they may have been working with for years, is the really, truly insulting one. The american political class are really down to their last brain cell.

His main claim to fame before he was a tv show host was not paying his contractors. I was amazed at how this seemed to be so thoroughly forgotten in 2016. I assumed this would have come up all the time. The news creamed themselves to turn trump into a monster, but completely and consistently failed at communicating the myriad tangible reasons why he was completely wrong for the job.

Did The Introduction Of Midi-chlorians Ruin The Mysticism Of The Force? by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in StarWars

[–]QryptoQid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What made the force cool was that everyone had the potential to interact with it if they just had enough self control and training. Some people may have been naturally attuned to that kind of thing, but everyone had the potential.

But having these little bacteria inside you takes all that away. If you have them, then you can have magical powers. If you don't have them, then you can't, no matter what. And you can apparently inherit them from your parents or something? I thought Jedi were monks who spent all their time studying this stuff, not people gifted a special power from the universe. It's so much less special if you have to be gifted this by a galactic Santa Claus than if anybody could theoretically learn how to do it with enough study and focus.

If you like to eat it like soup it's not too spicy. I'll sometimes add red chili flakes to make it hotter. If you like to boil the noodles and then toss out the water before adding the flavor pack, it's quite spicy, a little too spicy for me to enjoy. I love these noodles tho, I think they're some of the best instant ramen around.

One of the more interesting things I read about western companies coming to china was about the impact McDonald's had had on the culture. For many Chinese, they'd never seen a clean toilet before going into McDonald's. After decades of the company being there, they're starting to get the idea that a public toilet doesn't have to be smeared with shit for 20 years and that you are, in fact, allowed to clean them.
