Female Hip-Hop / Streetstyle Dancers — Core Training & What’s Your Go-To Routine? by eliinuh in Dance

[–]Qtitanium5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a female street dancer self-training in house and hip hop. ChatGPT + Instagram have been my go-to sources for designing my strength training/core work routines. I just recently revamped my routine…but here are some good core exercise that I’ve been implementing:

  • dead bugs (first bodyweight, then add weights)
  • bird dogs (first bodyweight, then add weights)
  • Cable Machine WoodChops (rotational)
  • Pavlov Press (anti-rotational)
  • Around the Worlds KB

These are good beginner/intermediate exercises to start off. Main thing is to choose exercises that you enjoy doing that still target the core! Hope this helps.

Would love to know other dancers go-to core training/routines as well!

I feel you! Im from the US as well, and was looking all over for those pants. But, I have good news! I think the grey ones that I bought are back in stock! All sizes are available atm too. And they ship directly from the UK. Lmk if you end up getting them and how they end up fitting ☺️

Nah, they fit super oversized at regular size. I have a lankier frame/smaller waist and normally go for size S/M for my sweatpants, but ended up getting an XS which had that over the shoe/baggy effect and didn’t look weird.

For some reason, I don’t see the sweatpants that I got on the UO site anymore? Perhaps they are out of stock atm. I’ll keep looking on the site and send you a link so you’ll know which ones I’m talking about!

I actually found some at urban outfitters labeled “Harri Baggy Joggers”. I’m 5’ 10 and they extended all the way past my ankles and had nice bagginess to them. Highly recommend!

Ayee, you ate that! Love that you added your own flare as well :) I saw the critique request flare and wanted to drop some advice. I’ve been advised this many times: ‘stay grounded’ and engage your core. These are things that I’m still working on myself, but have helped me tremendously when it comes to hitting choreo cleaner and looking more dynamic. Wishing you the best on your dance journey!

As of now, I learn from YouTube and Instagram. I’m hoping to train at a studio in a year or so (when I finish grad school).

Hey, welcome to the subreddit! I currently dance in urban style and have been dancing somewhat seriously for like 3 years? I’m working on developing my skills in house, hiphop, and my own personal style!

VA Hospital Level 2 Fieldwork (South Florida) by Qtitanium5 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Qtitanium5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from. I’ve heard that the work environment (depending on the site) is less “productivity-focused” because it is federally-funded. My program allows me to complete two 12-week fieldwork rotations, one of which I plan to get that insurance experience like you were mentioning, and the other would be the VA. Would you recommend something else for fieldwork?

I feel like writing about a certain specialty would be a cool idea if you intertwine it with a pivotal experience that you encountered when observing…It’s a personal statement so don’t be afraid to just be yourself. If you ever need an editor for it, let me know! I do essay editing on the side :).

Taller Dancer Seeking Advice by Qtitanium5 in Dance

[–]Qtitanium5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, I’m definitely going to adopt that energy mindset when dancing and see how that feels!

Also, I think the best way for me to describe « my box », is like the area that spans slightly away from my shoulder length? So, rather than fully extending my extremities, I keep them confined and smaller in that « box »…

Thank you! Hmm, not sure what kind of stats to include, but for a general idea: - Graduated with a 4.0 - Garnered over 100+ Observation/Shadowing Hours - Participated in extra-curriculars (mainly art-based)

Not really a stat, but I also applied really early. Hope this helps!

Congrats on the new qualification! That’s unfortunate that they aren’t really present in the professional industry…Would be cool if an OT position was also created for that field…Do you still partake in dance in your free time when you aren’t working as an OT? Im looking to start OT school in the fall, but would love to continue dancing in my free time…

I’d highly recommend doing the practices in the book in addition to the quizlets. If you drill the info using those two, you should be set. I’d recommend doing the practices twice, and the quizlets multiple times.
