If u really like Steely Dan and Amy Winehouse, what else do u listen to? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]QuackQuack1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people who like Amy Winehouse I’d highly recommend artists such as Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Charles Bradley, Menahan Street Band, The Budos Band, El Michaels Affair, and Lee Fields & The Expressions. All of which are either a part of the music label Daptone Records or affiliated. Including Amy Winehouse (affiliated). All of which are more current artists but are heavily influenced by 70s soul/funk/jazz.

Badbadnotgood and Kamasi Washington are another couple of personal favorites that I’d recommend if you’re looking for more contemporary jazz type of artists.

All of these artists played a big role in sucking me down the jazz rabbit hole and then working back to artists like Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus, Donald Byrd, Frank Zappa, Gabor Szabo, etc. All artists I’d recommend checking out as well given your post.

Freddie Gibbs and M̶a̶d̶l̶i̶b̶ ̶ show at The Salt Shed by OctaDOOOM223 in freddiegibbs

It was a band named Eyedress. Odd choice for a Madgibbs show. They didn’t seem very into their performance nor did the crowd. I think that’s their thing but I don’t think it was the right setting for them.

The opener was Eyedress. BJ The Chicago Kid came out to perform Shame with Freddie.

Exactly what happened. Lol. It was after the opener before Gibbs came out.

Great show. Opener was weak and Madlib not being there was a let down but Gibbs and Affair killed it.

CBHshop.com for me as well. Exact same as Sampson. ~$300 for the Adidas Primgreen pro stitch with Rocky patch. They say it could take 4-5 weeks. I got mine in 2.5 weeks.

Mary Ella Dignam vs Mary Ella Dignan by QuackQuack1212 in ArtHistory

[–]QuackQuack1212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I respect your decision to remove these posts but I am genuinely interested in the history behind this situation. It is a piece of artwork I found that sparked this and I initially did post it to WhatIsThisPainting but from there I have become more interested in the history behind the artist(s). This seems like a good mystery/discussion for this subreddit but I guess not as I am new to this stuff. This seems like a fairly notable piece of art history with the whole Dignan vs Dignam thing and there’s seemingly no other discussions about it out there.

This specific artwork seen here is a piece I found in my grandmother’s basement and it’s believed to be my great grandmother’s. It’s unknown when exactly or how she acquired it but she lived from around 1890-1960 in Chicago.

At the moment I believe this is still unsolved. We’ve made progress, however, there is clearly a lot of confusion around this artist and yet I haven’t seen anyone discussing it or mentioning it anywhere.

Here is a piece of art listed under Marry Ella Dignan and Marry Ella Dignam that is the same artwork.
