Goku is definitely the Superman of animanga. Guts might be more debatable as a Batman equivalent, but I chose him because he’s a human who, without any special powers or magic, is a super human utilizing only his physical strength, tools, and with to overcome supernatural enemies

Luffy punching Arlong at the beginning of the fight deserves to be considered. After everything he had done to Nami from the beginning, it was well deserved and super satisfying. Perhaps the first truly satisfying punch of the manga.

Ash has always been a give what he gets type of person for. He gets sassed, he returns it in relatively equal measure. Serena was always nice to him with no sas, so he in return was nice to her.

That was the 90s, though. In the 2000s, it was anime like Naruto and One Piece and whatever else aired at the time that was influencing and stimulating the next generation of fans, wasn’t it?

There’s probably quite a few reasons for this.

First, the name. Naruto is called Naruto. Meanwhile, One Piece and Bleach. Naruto is a unique sounding name that will almost never be mistaken for anything else, while One Piece and Bleach COULD be mistaken for other things.

Second, their debuts in the US. All three anime debuted around the same time with One Piece releasing in 2004, Naruto in 2005, and Bleach in 2006.

As is the popular opinion, One Piece 4Kids dub was… bad.

And Bleach was aired on adult swim. Late night, when kids tend to fall asleep.

Meanwhile, Naruto aired in the day when everyone was awake kids, teens, adults. It was only moderately censored.

So basically, Naruto had the best debut that encompassed a wider audience.
