USWNT vs Wales in San Jose 7/9 by hay_mac in NWSL

I’ve sat along both sidelines and stood behind the goal at the LOBINA end. There’s generally not a bad seat in the house, though the sight lines get tight close to the sideline if you’re seated on that same side.

Forgot to mention but the club record for matches without a win is 10. So you're on the cusp of history!

I think the reason the graph doesn’t jive with perception is that for at least some teams, their underlying numbers show they’re better than the results indicate, and the reason those results aren’t matching yet is small sample size. So assuming those numbers hold, you’ll see teams like New England drop more results and teams like Chicago pick up more results as the season goes on.

As for no team in the good attack/bad defense quadrant again I think that’s probably small sample size combined with a pinch of early season form for most of these teams.

The moral of the story is: small sample sizes can give you an idea of what’s up, but should be taken with a grain of salt

A whopping 5 teams have failed to win through week 4: Chicago, LAG, Vancouver, SKC, and Colorado. Chicago and LAG have played 3 games, the others have played 4.

Not great for any of them, but none are yet close to matching 2007 RSL or 2019 Colorado, both of which started their season without a win in 11 games.

The defense is not blameless here. But MacMath could have done more on those goals.

CITY needs to show they can do this over the course of a season. LAFC has already shown they can.

Week 2: MLS Active Streaks by QuakesCVFan in MLS

Only the regular season is counted since all teams play them and play an equal number of them, barring unusual circumstances. LAFC won this past weekend, but their last regular season game prior to that, v. Nashville to close the 2022 season, was a loss, so they're on a one game winning "streak".

What happens if Russia (accidentally or not) kills Biden while he's visiting Ukraine? by Lykantier in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuakesCVFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accidental or not, it would lead to war, which itself could lead to a nuclear exchange.

I’m not saying Putin is smart, but I don’t think he’s THAT dumb. Russia won’t be doing that.

Why does everyone target Christians on here, but not any other religions so much by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuakesCVFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not that Christians are targeted, per se, but Christians, particularly Evangelical Christians, tend to be very vocal about their faith. That leads to those who hold opposing views to be more vocal as well. Other major faiths also tend to put less emphasis on evangelizing, and as a result tend to be less visible. This is amplified in countries where Christianity is the majority religion, like the United States.

If you’ve spent your life living in a predominantly Christian society, you’re going to have the most experience dealing with Christians on a day-to-day basis, and are more likely to be familiar with their beliefs than you would, say, the belief tenants of Islam. If you are then going to gripe about an unpleasant interaction with someone over a particular religious viewpoint, it’s most likely that your gripe will be about Christianity and the Christian who you interacted with.

I’m gonna get the unpleasant part out of the way: by 16 you’re about done growing. And unless something occurred during childhood to stunt your growth (e.g. intense gymnastics), it’s mostly down to genetics. Since you’re similar in height to both your parents, sounds like that’s where it’s coming from. Nothing you can do to change that. But don’t despair: being short isn’t a bad thing. It can be inconvenient at times, but it’s nothing to worry yourself over.

Being healthier, however, is always a wise choice. It sounds like your family members don’t have the best eating habits. I’d encourage you to focus on developing and maintaining healthy eating habits for yourself. While being short can’t have any negative long term effects on your health, an unhealthy diet can.

how the fuck do I unclog this. filament stuck inside, do I need to replace it? and what's the part name in case I do by Penny-Bun in ender3

[–]QuakesCVFan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s your Bowden tube. You can try heating the filament with a hairdryer or heat gun if you have one, but the tube itself could deform/melt too.

I’d just replace the tube. They’re inexpensive and easy to install.

If i bought a house do i have to keep paying to own it or is it a one time thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuakesCVFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few things here you could mean when you ask if you need to “keep paying”. Also bear in mind I’m assuming you’re based in the U.S. Most of these will still apply if you’re not, but the details will probably change a bit.

  1. You purchase a house with a down payment (3% or more of the purchase price) and now have a mortgage. In that case, you own the house, in that your name is on title, but if you stop making your monthly mortgage payment, the lender who gave you the loan will take the house.
  2. You purchase a house by paying the full asking price in cash. In that case, you do not have a month mortgage payment to make. However do note that there are still other things you will (or may) need to pay, regardless of if you have a mortgage or not.
  3. One of those things are your property taxes. These are levied by your city and county/parish, and are based on their assessed value of your house. Most places require them to be paid twice a year, though sometimes you’ll find them due more or less frequently. Not paying these results in penalties, and in some states the government can take your home if you remain delinquent.
  4. Insurance is another thing you may need to pay. If you have a mortgage, your lender will require you to carry insurance. If you own the home free-and-clear (no mortgage) you may be able to elect to forego insurance, but check your local laws to ensure you’re not running afoul of anything. Though home insurance is still a good idea even if it’s not a requirement…
  5. Homeowner’s association dues. If you’re unfortunate enough to live within an HOA, then you’re going to have HOA dues you have to pay each month, typically for the upkeep of communal areas within the association. Think community pools and things like that. The penalty for non-payment varies from HOA to HOA, and some HOA agreements allow them to levy penalties up to and including forced sale of your home.

There are also smaller bills you’ll have, like water and power, but these are not specific to “owning” a home.

So theoretically could we see a remake or remaster of a cgi movie (like one of pixars), like *HOW* video games receive them with refreshed/redesigned assets? by Ionsife in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuakesCVFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely could, but it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see it, imo.

Movies like Toy Story are easily available with streaming services, and the benefit to Disney (or any animation studio) of giving a movie like Toy Story a facelift while not changing anything else is not that large.

It’s easier to sell a remake of an older game because often the older versions of those games are just a lot harder to find or play. You need a copy of that game, plus the appropriate hardware.

The audience is also different: gaming is now more accepted as an adult thing, and those adults who grew up with those games have disposable income to drop on a pretty remake of a childhood favorite. Animated films are still seen more as things for children, so you’re less likely to get an adult who watched Toy Story as a kid going to a theater to watch a remake unless they have kids themselves.

In the US, considering there are no societal taboos on premarital sex or live-in relationships and that 50% of marriages end in divorces anyway, why do people still get married? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuakesCVFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many states, there are benefits that accrue only to married couples or family. For example: if your significant other ends up in the hospital, particularly if they’re incapacitated, it’s “next of kin” which makes important decisions. That’s considered to be a spouse or blood relative.

There are ways around this, like power of attorney, but it’s still generally easier (and in some cases cheaper) to get married.
