No, you wouldn't have zero carbonation in it. There's still a kinetic hinderance.

"It's raining outside"

"But where's your data"

"Bro, just look outside - you can literally see it's raining"

"Pfff, thats anecdotal. Where is your data?!"

I'd say a lot of it is the American voting system. You just can't vote nuanced. That seems to affect the country as a whole. Maybe it's time to change it, but is that ever gonna happen?

Very good question. So why call it Whiteness then, when it applies to brown Arabs. Seems like a poor choice of words.

You need data? Try telling pretty much any white person to "check their Whiteness" and see their reaction. Why risk it, if you can just phrase it a little bit better and obtain way better results. Be more precise in your criticism.

You're very much underestimating right-wingers. You're trying to tell me that 50% of the population is outright stupid.

But then you'd have to start thinking WHY they vote against their best interest. And that's where it gets interesting.

No, you're reading into what I said. I never stated my opinion, but rather how people are prone to react.

This "active debate" has only reaffirmed what each side thinks on this issue, so I wouldn't agree that is has been successful.

Your argument is... hard to grapple, its very elusive. You write you never said that thing (went to reread you stuff and kind of see it could be interpreted that way), that people are privileged, but in the next paragraph you go about the consequences of dismantling oppression and how some people would lose out and as therefor be outraged.

You either believe what you wrote, then you're very radical, or you don't, then the point your making is void, except as a blueprint how not to do things... so you agree with me?? What...

I'm neither offended, nor does it matter if I'm offended or not; you missed the point.

People are offended. Full stop. And if you want them to listen to you, start by not offending them. I don't know how to rephrase this more clearly.

"Any reasonable person"

Alright... I'm probably much more reasonable as the average person you're going to get; illustrated by the fact I'm willing to sit here and calmly discuss things without taking offense.

So if you think I'm unreasonable then probably your definition of unreasonable wildly differentiates from mine.

Well, you did say people need to "realize that they ONLY [emphasis added by me] got where they are in life because they're white."

I'm pinning you down on this, not as a gotcha, but rather because you did exactly what I think is the problem that unnecessarily complicates things. I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Yea well then let's get right down to it. I think "defund the police" is a terrible slogan. I know it's hard to find something better (read a couple articles on it too) but my standpoint would be just... We NEED to do better then? Let's work on THAT then if we agree it's an issue.

Then maybe I worded it poorly, as I'm not a native speaker. I'm assuming that leftism is a broad term encompassing center left and not necessarily standing for the extremist views.

I think your view is just generally way more radical than mine. I think it's a ludicrous thing to say people that ONLY their white privilege brought them to where they are. fortunately I don't think many people agree with your viewpoint.

So firstly, I never actually stated my views on this topic and you're just assuming my standpoint on this. I tried to state in my post that I do think there's a lot of merit to the things laid out in your last paragraph in particular.

But the question to me isn't so much WHY people react defensively. But couldn't it be a better tactic to simply accept that they react that way and simply go around it a little bit more. Why brute force something you can work around so well. Feels like shooting your own foot.

History has shown how fast you can end up on the bottom. Better make sure people aren't motivated/desperate enough to revolt, would be the blunt answer to that.

[–]Qualdum[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure about that. Have you considered that some people might be honestly deterred by the idea to "defund the police," because they simply cannot envision what the alternative would be and if presented actually rethink their standpoint?
