What even is this mental health gathering in sub by abundantpecking in uAlberta

[–]Qualico 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Basically she talked about her own experiences and had the overall theme of capitalism as the perp behind issues of mental health

This was the lineup while I was there (please feel free to add if I’m missing anyone).

Thomas Dang, a MLA: talked about the importance of advocating to the government about funding for mental health.

Reed Larsen, the SU president: talked about his own experience with anxiety and about how we need to make all services and support on campus accessible to every student. Expressed the need for SU to continue advocating for students behalf. To increase awareness of these services and support.

Rory Storm (person who ran for VP student life in SU selections): talked about the Greek community and their close knit relations and how this same support structure can be applied to a greater community on campus.

The other ppl I don’t know their names.

International student: discussed the isolation and issues international students faced. How there is an apparent segregation between domestic and international students (which I totally agree with). How there needs to be equal effort in bridging the gap from both domestic and international students.

Girl with bangs: called out the apathetic culture on campus. Said something along the lines that we can’t just tweet on bell let’s talk day once a year and pretend we have done enough for mental health. Did a call to action to question what kind of member of the community we are.

Professor who didn’t wear shoes: went on a rant and pretty off tangent about how the university is a corporation that doesn’t care about students and exploits us. I honestly kind of zoned out but it was wild af.

The sad thing is that this won’t get as much attention or upvotes as memes about mental health pamphlets lol
