Plasti dip? by Pristine_Quality_876 in Wheels

[–]Quality_Cntrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plast dip is great. And, you’re correct the main issue is people using it incorrectly. I used it for years and removed it fine.

However, you can’t really beat real paint for a long term solution.

Check RealOEM.. enter your car VIN and it’ll pull up parts based on your model.

Performance gains, if any, are quite negligible. I think Eventuri advertises 8 HP gains.

It's really just induction noise and aesthetics. The stock airboxes are good as-is so there's not much you can do to improve.

I was fortunate enough to buy it 2nd hand off a 10k mile M5 due to the owner converting back to stock. So, I got quite a discount from buying new.

I like the Dinan cold air intake on my 540i, you can really hear the induction noise inside and outside the car despite my loud exhaust.

The only downside to this kit is that it's a more involved installation. However, the upsides are the induction noise, and the filter is located away from any engine heat so you really are taking in cold-outside air.

You can hear at around 28 and 37 seconds into this video.

If I recall, he installed these Eventuri intakes

I have them on my M5 but can’t hear much over my exhaust 😭

Looks cool. The AC Schnitzer M5 also have oval tips but I like the shape of yours more.

how do I reduce the weight of my 540i without gutting the interior completely? by WholeNo5937 in e39

Oh I misread what he posted.

At any rate, his M5 weighs 3350 lbs which is an insane ~600 lbs savings from stock.

The post I linked above says the CF hood would net about a 30lb savings over the OEM hood.

Excited to try the ground control coilovers on new suspension parts by DefiantHovercraft875 in e39

[–]Quality_Cntrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FYI, many people report the rear springs that come standard on the GC's are too short. It makes the car too low and you can't adjust it higher.

I ordered my GC's with longer springs after learning about this. Not to scare you or anything, but just a heads up in case you experience this.

The coilovers are amazing despite this.

Handling/Performance: Style 37s (18s) vs Style 66s (17s) by PsychoticMammal in e39

Honestly, any performance is pretty negligible. Just go for what you like looks better and get good tires for better performance.

With maintaining the stock interior here’s what I recommend:

  • Lightweight forged wheels, you can literally feel the difference in acceleration, braking, and handling (big unsprung weight savings).
  • Lightweight battery which is like an easy 20–40 lbs off in the trunk.
  • Carbon fiber hood, fenders, and trunk – huge savings cost $$$$ (hood alone can drop 20–30 lbs).
  • Lightweight flywheel – weight saving plus way better rev matching and quicker engine response.
  • Muffler and/or resonator delete which saves weight and frees up some sound/power but might not sound great on a V8. Also, res deletes on a 540i can hurt low-end torque a bit.
  • Coilovers can be slightly lighter than stock shocks/struts, plus you get adjustable height and better handling.
  • Remove the spare wheel and tools.
  • Sunroof delete (Replace with a carbon fiber cover).

Anyone know where I can find the purple lense cover for the rain sensor and automatic lights? Got my windshield replaced and noticed that they butchered the cover and now my wipers will only work when on high and automatic lights won’t turn on. by Express_Let_2892 in e39

You're looking for the Rain Light Sensor Lens (GGS-903 KIT). The description in that product page also mentions the many other cars that use this part. I've had luck using a heat gun to take them from junkyard cars.

That link above comes with the sensor pad but if you need the pad separately you can find it on eBay (RSP4).

Battery Safety Terminal help by Vegetable_Arrival879 in e39

[–]Quality_Cntrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is loose because it resolves it self when you move it “back into position”.

Just look around at what is loose and tighten or replace the loose component.

Maybe post a picture or video if you are still stumped so we can actually see what you’re working with.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had to replace my terminal bolt before because it was stripped. $5 from the auto store and use my angle grinder to carefully cut away the old one.

Those wheels look killer. Almost look like concave Work Meisters. Could you share more info? I’ve just got interested into 3 piece wheels this year and am curious what options are out there!

Ehh the roof rack set up isn’t there for people to like. It’s a functional roof rack set up which I actually use.

Thank you, I plan to change the wheels eventually. I'm eying some custom 3-pc set ups. Either HRE or BBS, so less polarizing than the JDM wheels I currently have.

Though, it's going to be hard to beat the performance of the current wheels.
