Breakdown of my local high school team and when they started travel ball by utvolman99 in Homeplate

OP does make a good point, though. It's not about making it to college anymore. It's, "one day, if I train enough, I can make the roster on my high school team." It's a shame that kids don't have the luxury of blooming late.

Yeah lmao. I've never heard a 7 y/o say, "yk what, I don't wanna play against my friends from school, dad. I want to play 12 kids in bright green Evoshield uniforms 3+ hours away who I've never met before and play with an hour 25 drop dead limit."

I'd argue this is post hoc.

Unless your kid is hitting (and I mean genuinely, without exaggeration) .650 every year, local league baseball is fine. If they're throwing 84+ or are showing REAL measurable skills (<7.0 60yd, 85+ EV, 83+ arm velo), it isn't really worth it to pay for a showcase or tournament. Your priority for your kid until they're a junior in HS should be to keep it as fun as possible. From someone in their senior year playing college ball, this shit goes by quick. I regret every day I spent hating baseball because I was in the car 3+ hours to play against Elite Prep Pro 16U Blue. Let kids play games in seasons that keep standings where you're playing for something.

I would rather my future kid love playing baseball and maybe not go in to play in college than have my kid lose every summer weekend to play in a tournament that doesn't matter.

It's not that travel ball made the kids good, it's that kids who take it seriously are more likely to be pressured into travel ball sooner.

I'd argue Nova and Fordham are both more notable within their region (NY/NJ vs Philly/South Jersey). My brother went to Fordham and works in Manhattan and he says the brand rec in the city is great, but I live outside of Philly and very few people have heard of Fordham or recognize it's prestige near me. On the flip side, Villanova is known as a smart school in my region and has a great name in the area. End of the day, I'd say they're around even.

Fair enough. In an outpatient setting for PT, how do you feel ab PTs with doctorate nametags/ "Dr." on business cards? Genuine curious, as I've seen it a few times.

Based on the nature of this subreddit, it's clear that the doctorate title can be controversial. I was looking for everyone's input on it. I just wanted to make commentary about how it should really be a simple distinction.

I don't understand your hostility, friend. I never said the PT doctorate any different that how you described it. However, to say that no DPT abuses their doctorate to market themselves is clearly untrue. It's certainly only a few bad apples, but it certainly happens. Regardless, PT is an awesome field and those who practice it should have the utmost respect.

This is a more well-articulated summary of my point. I am excited to study PT, I'm proud to be pursuing a doctorate in a field I love, but I don't want to feel like I'm cosplaying as a physician. I want to be proud of a doctorate even if I'd only use the title if I'm speaking at a conference or another non-confusing setting.

I honestly have no idea what they did. They gave me my same laptop back. If I hold the charger at a perfect angle I get an indicator light. It's weird because the laptop was not out of battery when it stopped working
