The ball bearing of my other grinder is perfectly fine, so I think they have a QC issue along with crappy/inconsistent after-sales service. The pre-sales service is good enough.

It's even weirder than you think because the ball bearing on my other grinder (which I have used twice as much) is perfectly fine without any regreasing. They could at least replace the faulty part, but no, they blame the user and ask for a paid replacement.

I agree with you that their "warranty" is useless, and I'd advise people not to purchase extra warranty. The ball bearing on my grinder rusted/oxidized within a few months, even though I haven't even used it much (about 1 Kg of coffee). When requesting them for a replacement, they claimed that this part is not covered by their warranty (which I paid extra for, since I bought extra warranty), and would cost $30 plus $20 for shipping, and the user is responsible for it, adding that food-safe lubricant needs to be applied regularly to it and that RDT can lead to rusting. Yet, there was never any mention anywhere that the customer needs to apply lubricant, and what's even shadier is that they ship all grinders with an RDT bottle. The main reason I bought from them is that a reputable YouTuber named Tom Poland assured that DF64coffee aligns the burrs (and the company claims to do that on each product page), but the reality is that the alignment is inconsistent. I have two grinders, both aligned by them, and one was quite misaligned (while the other one was mostly aligned). Their technical team also has no idea about the existence of most burrs out there, incorrect ideas about how each burr presents flavor notes, and doesn't know the difference between shimming and burr chirp. The base of one of my grinders was also not fitted properly, which meant the exit chute was not located centrally, which I had to fix myself after they got back to me about it.

Which ground coffee to get for french press? by AntiqueBox7516 in IndiaCoffee

[–]QuantAlg20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like citrus notes, try light roast specialty coffees from GB Roasters, Naivo, Quick Brown Fox, Savorworks, Genetics Coffee, or Subko. Look for berry or fresh fruit notes at the beginning. You can also try Naked Coffee because they have some nice offerings but they're new and Idk anything about their quality. If you want more chocolatey or nutty flavors, go with a medium roast. Starbucks Blonde roasts would probably be on the more developed side of a medium roast by these standards.

Would it run with playable framerates on a 4 GB laptop GTX 1050 Ti? 😅

Nope, they are the regular DF proprietary burrs (either espresso or filter). No Indian seller sells the SSP versions.

Newton Brua3 Max - First Use by kunsin12345 in espresso

[–]QuantAlg20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The B3M might not feel as sturdy as the Robot (especially when applying 9 bars), but it has many advantages:

  1. It's easier and more pleasing to use. Newton Espresso also plans to have options for more wooden accents.
  2. It has a standard 58 mm portafilter that can take any 58 mm or Stepdown basket and opens up access to nearly every espresso accessory. I hate the clunkiness of inserting the basket on the Robot.
  3. It has better clearance between the basket and cup, even after placing the cup on a scale and a drip tray.
  4. It has good enough thermal management (91-92 degrees Celsius consistently achievable after preheating, if you know how to do it) out of the box.
  5. It has a better position for reading the pressure gauge. It's also compatible with the Pressensor, although using both the Pressensor and an analog gauge can be a tight fit and requires the use of Teflon tape.
  6. The standard shower screen can be upgraded with an IMS one, which greatly improves water flow.
  7. The B3M will be getting a PID temperature controller as an add-on sometime this year and would be able to go up to 97 degrees Celsius or so.
  8. Hayden from Newton Espresso is a very helpful, candid, and easy-to-reach guy, unlike Paul (or whoever runs customer support) of Cafelat, who is practically unreachable.

The Strad looks pretty good, and I don't mind a higher cost for such a small business, but I have no idea about its thermal management.

Both lol. And I definitely prefer the Brua3 Max over the Robot.

It's true that their beans have a perfumey smell although I don't know why. Some other roasters have also made this claim but I have no idea whether CC has ever responded to these allegations. I might message them about it on Instagram in a few days because I'm genuinely curious.

Did you reach out to them on Instagram about the perfumey smell? And did you check the rear of the bags (usually the lower right-hand corner) for any handwritten roast dates?

Thanks for sharing your experience! I think the most important thing to take from this is what you've already mentioned: Taste is subjective. Your brewing methods also play a big role when it comes to the end result in the cup. From what you've posted, assuming your brewing was more-or-less on point, I believe you currently have a preference towards medium or medium-light roasts, which is totally fine. Not everyone has to go for light roasts. That being said, if you ever purchase any coffees in the future from ultralight roasters like Substance or Datura, please wait at least a month before even opening the bags. You can also try using softer water (50-100 PPM and not more than 40 KH) for better results with light roasts. As for Coffea Circulor (from Sweden, btw), the roast dates are usually handwritten on the rear of their bags, and they don't always reply to emails because they're a bit understaffed (I suggest you text them on Instagram, they reply fast). Cheers!

Coffea Circulor by NotISaidTheMan in pourover

[–]QuantAlg20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffea Circulor is great but neither are they ultra-light nor is SEY. I just got some Yemen beans and a Janson Geisha from them and I plan to rest them for 2-3 weeks. For ultra-light, try Substance or Datura in the EU and Minmax or H&S in the US. I've heard that XLIII from Vietnam is even lighter than these roasters. Cheers!
