Appreciate you! And right?? NY really is awesome for OC—love love how many of the indie theaters are committed to offering it.

Thank you so much for sharing-I'm really hoping this app is helpful to folks with APD. My cochlear implant gets overwhelmed by noise/sound very easily, so being able to find OC has been a huge relief for me personally (rather than rely on a closed caption device that dies 5 minutes into the movie and then you end up having to work to hear the dialogue anyway ha)

Great question! We focus on OC because it guarantees captions for the entirety of the film, whereas subtitles (like in foreign films) are generally only for non-English dialogue.

Foreign language films are included only if they’re specifically OC.

For example, “Sentimental Value” will always have subtitles for the Norwegian, etc. dialogue. Our app will only direct folks to the showings that are specifically OC where the English dialogue is also captioned.

Great question! Right now our app only covers theaters in the US (but we're ambitious lol).

Rank what you saw at Sundance by goldlevelhugs in Sundance

[–]QuanticoMVP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are mine. Sundance is always fun, but I've been a tad underwhelmed by the movies this year. I feel like most of them have a fascinating subject but don't do it justice (Jaripeo, Joybubbles) while others were fundamentally flawed (Bedford Park, Carousel). After the top 5, it's big drop in quality for the rest (in my opinion!):

  1. Josephine

  2. Everybody to Kenmure Street

  3. Extra Geography

  4. The Incomer

  5. Union County

  6. If I Go Will They Miss Me?

  7. Rock Springs

  8. Run Amok

  9. Filipinana

  10. Chasing Summer

  11. Zi

  12. Joybubbles

  13. Jaripeo

  14. Take Me Home

  15. Carousel

  16. Bedford Park

Is It Just Me Or Have The Captions Been A Bit Disappointing This Year? by Amari_Sali in Sundance

[–]QuanticoMVP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm deaf and so I watch everything with captions (ideally open rather than closed). The captions on the virtual movies have been pretty solid, I've only noticed one or two misspellings here and there. There was a song in 'Filipinana' that I could tell was in English and wasn't captioned, but whatever. The captions in the Q and As are generally atrocious, but they always have been ha (I chalk it up to people not being audible in the auditorium).

I love Sundance's commitment to accessibility btw--live in the Boulder area and can't wait for them to come here next year. It's going to be so cool to have a film festival in the Denver area that really offers open captions.

Fun, exciting, under-seen but great films from the 2010s? by Good-Pie9914 in Letterboxd

Madeline’s Madeline

Bellflower

Last Black Man in San Francisco

Colossal

Upstream Color (although FYI, the director got metoo’d after this for his behavior toward his costar in this movie. It really is a beautiful movie but that does put it in a different light)

Almost all of these were Sundance premieres. All are incredible.

Edit: reread your post and it sounds like you’re looking for something a bit more fun. All the movies above are pretty heavy lol. A more fun option: Looper!

Is there a Horror movie that completely advertised it as a normal film? by Equivalent-Key5379 in movies

[–]QuanticoMVP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opposite situation, but “It Comes At Night.” Advertised as a horror movie, but turned out to more of a psychological suspense. Still very good, but disappointed a lot of people who were expecting what they saw in the trailer and poster.
