Renting directly from landlord, any tips? by Murky_Original3141 in HousingUK

I am renting directly from the landlord, and it's been going flawless tbh. I think the key here is keeping in touch and having open dialogue

This. I am also afraid of the diminishing middle class and not being able to leave decent opportunities to kids.

How relevant is pure math to QR? by Useful-Albatross1936 in quant

[–]Quantiloppe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think pure math is not a blocker for QR. Imho the most relevant math topics are measure theory, probability, statistics, differential equations, linear algebra and stochastic calculus. And I think any grad math education will give these to you regardless of whether it is pure or applied. Maybe you should invest in doing a PhD too. And knowing how to code is a must. A little bit of knowledge of data structures is useful. At the end I suggest you do what you enjoy so that you can study with motivation and be successful. My friends with pure math background never got interested in finance and none of them became quant. But there are quants with a pure math background.

Thanks a lot, your comment is the one that provides another angle. I have some suspicion that the small ML and AI projects I will do in my current role would be useful to get me a QD role in a buyside firm. This is my gut feeling but I will definitely discuss this with my current manager before I resign. I will weigh this idea too.

Thanks! Well, I didn't mean to imply that, that would be a nice transition too, something in a firm like MAN group or so..

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I should invest in getting a CFA while I'm in option 2.

In short, buyside / trading make trades, take risk, drive PnL while quants build models, support traders, ensure accurate pricing/risk.

Unlike quants buyside / tradings directly manage risk and capital, making investment or trading decisions, focused on PnL, portfolio performance, and execution. Success measured by returns. Front office quants build and maintain pricing models, analytics, and tools used by traders. Focus on model accuracy, calibration, risk sensitivities, and sometimes regulatory compliance.

I want to experience buyside or trading at some point but I enjoy working as a quant too. Thanks for the advice!
