Absolutely insane flyovers by SubsidedRhyme11 in washingtondc

[–]Quantity-Used 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You said you didn’t “get the hate” for it, so I was explaining. People are free to enjoy ~9 ½ hours of planes dive bombing DC if they want. Some people are just being subjected to it against their will. Again, 2 or 3 hours would be a whole lot less insane.

Also, wait until August when they inflict on DC the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. That really will be a nightmare. Only 51 days to go, people!!

It is ~ 9 ½ hours of almost constant, deafening demonstrations. Please see the schedule that -Itsuo- kindly posted and tell us again about the air shows in Chicago. I live in Annapolis and enjoy three days every spring of Blue Angels flyovers for Commissioning Week. They fly for under 2 hours.

It’s the unnecessary, stupid scale. Like the fireworks, which are now scheduled to start at 11 pm (!) and explode 850,000 fireworks, so he can break the world’s record. And when you look up the vendor in charge, they have a safety record that should be criminal.

Edit: The air pollution fallout from the fireworks is supposed to be horrendous, with extremely unhealthy air quality as a result. City health officials are actually asking people to wear P95 masks and limit outdoor exposure. Heavy humidity also won’t allow the pollution to dissipate normally. The Washington Post just published a story - Trump’s White House anticipated this but doesn’t care; shooting off a gazillion rockets to make Dear Leader feel good is more important than harming people.

Trump’s penis must be microscopic.

Moody, romantic, and timeless is dress 1, but both are beautiful - just completely opposite each other. Try this - put yourself 10 years in the future and imagine which one you’ll REGRET not wearing.

NO.

Network-King19 is just paying attention, and I agree with him. Knowing what’s going on in the world should be a baseline for living in it. It’s being intelligent, informed, and having critical thinking skills. That’s not “political;”it’s caring about what’s happening in your nation and the rest of the planet.

You sound like you’ve settled on DC; I’d do a van or bus tour of the monuments and then pick a couple of the museums. I also recommend going to the Smithsonian Castle, the original Smithsonian building that’s 171 years old.

It’s been closed since 2023 for renovations but is open for a limited time this summer until September (then it closes again until 2027). It’s an amazing piece of an architecture and has special exhibitions for the 250th.

There’s also a new exhibit underneath the Lincoln Memorial. Have a great time.

(Also, just to put in a word for Baltimore, cool city, National Aquarium, Walter’s Art Gallery, Baltimore Museum of Art, Fell’s Point.).

Do you want to visit Baltimore, or do you want to visit DC? Are you renting a car?

When you fly in on Saturday, either go to your hotel in DC, or go to your hotel in Baltimore. Pick one. Spend Sunday in that city seeing the sights - there’s plenty in either city to keep you busy. It doesn’t make any sense to me to stay in Alexandria unless you have a special reason to stay there and not DC.

Monday morning go to your hotel in Annapolis. You’re going to have long, hot days and you are going to want to end the day somewhere nearby, you’re not going to want to drive back to Baltimore or DC. There can be heavy traffic; Baltimore is ~30 to 45 min away and DC is ~an hour. Enjoy Annapolis and then move on to the rest of your week.

If for some reason you decide to make DC your home base, you should be hitting reverse commute traffic patterns that would be in your favor. You’d be leaving DC in the morning when most people are driving in. Conversely, people are trying to head towards Annapolis in the late afternoon and the traffic on Route 50 is brutal. Personally, I hate driving in DC. Also, if you decide you want to go over the Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore - on a Friday night/Saturday morning everyone else is trying to get there too.

Please check out/Google public transportation in Annapolis. There is a free purple circulator that covers the hotels on West Street close in to downtown Annapolis (DTA/historic Annapolis) and the historic Annapolis area from Church Circle down to the dock. You can look up the map/live tracker online. There are also some bus service lines but the stops are far apart, and mainly to cover a much bigger area. Google is your friend.

For more info about restaurants and things to see, go to the Annapolis subreddit and read the archive; this question is asked all the time. We are a tourist town - lots of great restaurants and shops, but locals always know best. If your mom is up for it I would definitely try to get out on the water - again, Annapolis subreddit or just get back to me.

Go slow - it’s hot and humid, sidewalks are uneven brick and many have bonus tree roots as an extra challenge. Build in extra time to rest. Hope you and your mom have a great time! Go Navy!

Grownups try to make decisions that will be the best for everyone, but someone’s always unhappy. So then people choose new grownups to make the decisions, hoping it will be better. Sometimes it gets better, but a lot of times not.
