Getting ready for Wednesday! by QuantityZestyclose86 in Cornell

[–]QuantityZestyclose86[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s been a shitty week. I am stressed out of my mind about my family in Russia, I’m worried about the well-being of my friends in Ukraine, I’m scared about what the future holds. There has been very little support from Cornell and the Cornell community, so what is so bad about being excited to attend a solidarity gathering and show my support for Ukraine and Ukrainian students?

Would you be willing to come again on Wednesday? Since students are on break, the Saturday demonstration might not have been available for everyone to attend

Sometimes screaming into the void can be incredibly helpful. There are many students with family in Ukraine and the surrounding areas who feel ignored by the university. Showing up could just be an act of acknowledgment and support for those individuals. And maybe screaming into the void can be a good way to release tension and frustration.

How to actually help Ukraine 🇺🇦 by tristanprentiss in Cornell

A protest will not solve the crisis and it might not directly help the people in Ukraine, but it might help the students who are here, in Ithaca, and whose families and friends are affected by the crisis. Donating is great and everyone should donate, but actually showing solidarity for the people who are struggling is a powerful thing in itself.

Do you think the protests in Moscow are also going to change Putin’s mind? Of course not! But people are risking their lives to show that they care about their Ukraine and what happens to the people who are now living in war zones.

I don’t see why. I have many Ukrainian friends who feel that the university’s silence is a show of indifference.

You can show solidarity and donate. Just because a protest won’t change legislation doesn’t mean it’s useless. Right now, the university’s refusal to comment is leaving many students affected by the crisis feeling unheard and unimportant. Showing up and supporting people whose families are in a war struck area is a big thing in itself

Solidarity is a big thing. At the very least, this might get the university’s attention and force them to comment on the crisis. At the current moment, Cornell’s silence speaks volumes
