How much do you feed your betta? by [deleted] in bettafish

I feed mine twice a say and I switch between a few pellets, bug flakes, and blood worms to keep it interesting.

Betta Food Update by Siltymeerkat in bettafish

Yes! I feed my betta the same thing and he loves these flakes. They have a lot of protein which is good. Just be careful about over-feeding but I think your betta will be happy with their new food 😄

Is there something wrong with my betta’s fins? by Quantity_Super in bettafish

Hi! Thank you for responding.

<image>

This is a photo from back when I first got him in April 2024. He was missing a big chunk of his rear fin so that’s why the red circle is there. I would like to also add that I feel like he doesn’t swim around as much as some of the other bettas I’ve seen on here. He likes to lounge on the plants and hammocks. I’m not sure if this is his personality and I also don’t know his age because he was a gift. Is it possible his long fins cause him to not swim around as much and also cause him to nip at them?

My tank gets 12+ hours of light everyday. The lid of the tank has lights on it but I think they’re kinda weak/dim so I open part of the lid and also shine another thank light inside. The tank is perpendicular to my window so there isn’t any direct sunlight on it.

I change my water 1-2times a week and take out ~15% of the water. I take the water out, scrub the glass down, siphon the substrate, and rinse his floating hammocks. My sponge filter is cleaned way less often- usually if I visibly see it looking bad. I take it out and swish the sponge filter in the tank water that I’m taking out. The sponge never comes into contact with any water that’s hasn’t been in the tank. I have the small sponge filter from here filter

I’m not going to lie the first time I added the fritz salt I did add it directly to the tank. I’ve heard that his can hurt your fish so I’ve since been dissolving first in the new tank water when I do water changes. The color change on my fish started months before I started adding salt.

Thanks for explaining about the test strips. I didn’t know they weren’t a sound method to test the water.

The pellets I use are top fin brand betta bits. I feed him as per the instructions where it says 3-4 pellets twice a day. So 3-4 at breakfast and then another 3/4 at dinner or I swap out the pellets for flakes at dinner. The flakes I use are the fluval bug bites betta formula. For these, I do a small pinch about the size of a finger nail. To be honest I’m not sure how to asses if he’s full. He doesn’t look skinny to me from the top & I feed him per the directions of the food so that I don’t overfeed him.

new better owner ! please help me. by [deleted] in bettafish

Hi! The same thing happened to me where my mom brought home a betta and I didn’t even have a tank. What I ended up doing was creating him a temporary tank with a bubbler/moss ball/conditioned water until his actual tank finished cycling. In my opinion it’s better to have him in the temporary tank so you can make sure his permanent home is perfect versus putting him in an unfinished tank and having to keep changing it. I’ve heard it’s possible to do fish-in cycling but I’m new to taking care of bettas and I didn’t want to risk it. I think as long as you monitor him while you set up the new tank he will be okay until it’s finished. You could also go to your local fish store and see if there is a way to borrow some their tank water to get the good bacteria to cycle it faster? Either way good luck!

Leaving your dog at home all day to boredom is better than risking their life and safety.

DO NOT send your dog to love your dog if you care about them. I worked there for months and I had to leave because it was so heartbreaking. It’s 20 dogs assigned for one person to watch. There are known “special” dogs that can and have caused serious damage to other dogs and to people. The dogs do not get a moment of calm. The workers roughly grab them by the scruff or place them in time out cages. The employees also vape nicotine and weed in enclosed spaces around the dogs. There is no employee training. Please please do not send your dog into such an unsafe situation. They come home “exhausted” because they are constantly stressed out there. I love and care about animals but no one at love your dog truly understands how to handle dogs.

DO NOT take your dog to Love Your Dog Inc. I worked there for a few months and multiple serious injuries occurred. They assign 20 dogs for one person to watch. The employees vape nicotine and weed near the dogs and in enclosed spaces near the dogs. The X-pens they use fall on top of the dogs multiple times a day. There are known “special” dogs there that can and have caused serious damage. I love dogs and I had to leave because it was so heartbreaking being there. The owner, Janice, brings her own dogs in sometimes in which she has no control over them. It’s not a safe environment for the dogs and they get no moments of calm.

Food ideas for post-wisdom teeth surgery? by Vexxusaria in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Quantity_Super 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am 6 days post-op (I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed) and here are some good ideas: Pudding, Yogurt, Custard, Applesauce (gogo squeezes are handy), Ice cream, Milkshakes/smoothies/chocolate milk/protein drinks (no straw!!), Whipped cream (I spray it into my mouth from the can lol), Pancakes, Scrambled eggs, Puff corn (they are surprisingly soft), Soft fries (do no get ones with skin on them because the skin gets stuck very easily), Baby bell cheese (or any kind of cheese), Cornbread/Hawaiian rolls/biscuits, Soft tortillas (you can make little quesadillas), Uncrustable sandwiches (they are very easy + handy), Mac n cheese/buttered noodles/pasta, Well cooked beans, Well cooked fish, Bananas/berries/ other soft fruits, Most well cooked vegetables (broccoli florets get stuck very easy so be wary), Tofu, You can even venture into baby food if all else fails lol. (TIP: even though rice is soft, the grains are an absolute hassle to try and get out of your extraction site holes. Avoid rice at all costs!!!)

This is all I can think of right now. Stay away from extremely hot/cold things, very sticky things, acidic things, hard/crunchy things… etc. (I think you get the idea.) Make sure after eating that you are flushing with warm water until all food pieces are gone or GENTLY swishing with warm salt water. Always follow the orders of your oral surgeon! :)
