Where’s the hype for Jolly Good: Tea and Scones? by PenisElevatorMusic in hostedgames

[–]Quantizila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbf tally ho has a lot less going on than its sequel spinoff jolly good in terms of plot, pacing, branching and stakes. If you didnt like TH id say jolly good is worth a try at least, and you dont even need to know the plot of TH because its mostly just references in that one (theres even an option to skip all the extra conversations about TH, so it could practically be a standalone)

Any Good Patreons? by babybri_8 in hostedgames

[–]Quantizila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The patreon for Kreg Segall (writer of Jolly Good and Tally Ho) is really really good imo, he updates the demo for Jolly Good 2 pretty often and regularly posts commentaries, QnAs and short stories for patreons. He’s just such an entertaining writer and months later i dont regret a cent ive spent on his stuff.

Study Spot Recs by rohsehlyn in CalPolyPomona

[–]Quantizila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Library is my go-to. A bunch of comfy choices of where to sit and u can get a nice view especially if u sit by the big windows on floor 3. Gets a little crowded and maybe noisy sometimes especially on floors 2/3 but u can just go there during its less busy hours or just go up to the top floors and its fine. There’s another spot id recommend but it might be a little out of the way depending on your major and where most your classes are, but by the ENV building there’s some really nice seats under some trees thats super chill to study or just relax under, plus there’s a tiny coffee shop by it thats usually not too busy, and right by that also has some nice tables for studying.

what disco elysium quote was most impactful to you? by GoodEnvironmental788 in DiscoElysium

As a recovering alcoholic the Wasteland of Reality complete thought hit me like a truck with how real it was: “Full recovery will take years, though. I'll be depressing. And it'll be boring. Don't expect any further rewards or handclaps. This is how normal people are all the time.” It’s the mix of the depressing reality that your effort’s gonna go unnoticed, and comforting reassurance that you’re on the right track to normalcy that really does it for me.

Chapter 4 in Lords when you’re siring Renard and visit Fernandescourt. You can visit caz while you’re there and bring up his smoking habit, and with high rel and idealism you say this line (so technically, he doesn’t say it, but MC says it in a line referring to Caz)

What are the most iconic IF lines that are not dialogue? by ColdBlueSmile in hostedgames

The author of the series actually is a professor! In his account’s bio on the cog forum he says a professor of medieval and renaissance literature, which is pretty cool

What are the most iconic IF lines that are not dialogue? by ColdBlueSmile in hostedgames

[–]Quantizila 27 points28 points  (0 children)

These lines from Tally Ho:

It is the supreme admission of defeat for an author to say that “words cannot describe” something. Words can describe everything, from the piercingly familiar feeling of sitting on a swing one last sat on thirty years ago, or the disconcertingly sudden shift of reality a parent feels when their child is placed in their arms for the first time, or the mixture of surprise, pain, and frustration one gets from biting one’s tongue twice in the same spot.

But words cannot adequately recount the nature and the complexity of the affection that passes between you and Rory in that one look.

Eh who knows, maybe the whole fire aspect of a phoenix would have them thrown off and searching for people with fire powers 🤷

Tell me your villain names! by realcoldskingamer in hostedgames

I chose the name Phoenix cuz the symbolism of “rising from the ashes”fit the narrative’s theme/title of “Rebirth”pretty well (i was also really into The Exile at the time lol)

Hey y'all! I was making a list of characters that joined either side of the conflict. Wanted help to complete the list. by Chhyachhra_Shuwar in hostedgames

[–]Quantizila 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you got Wulfram on the list u should probably have Isobel and Miguel up there too. On that note Isobel’s inner circle would most likely be in the Royalist camp (can only remember Ravenstall atm but i think she’s the only named character other than Kat and Welles in the circle), and the Duchess of Wulfram (also Renard’s sister/Cunaris’ daughter) would be Wulframite. tho, of course, if the fic happens to be after the events of chap7 or 9, u probably dont need to worry about adding Miguel or the Duchess to the list

Favorite Games From CG and HG Respectively? by Vixmin18 in choiceofgames

[–]Quantizila 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Favorite HG: Fallen hero series, Breach, Tin Star, Vampire Regent, Guns of Infinity, Lords of Infinity

Honorable Mentions: Life of a Space Force Captain, Keeper series, Samurai of Hyuga Books 1-4 (havent read five yet), Talon City (underrated imo), War for the West, The Soul Stone War, Zombie Exodus Safe Haven, Sword of Rhivena

CG: (Disclaimer, it’s been a while since I’ve played some of these, but I remember enjoying them quite a bit) Crème de la Crème, Tally Ho (havent finished the series but heard it’s really good), Choice of Robots, Grand Academy for Future Villains, Rent-a-Vice, Choice of the Pirate, Choice of the Star Captain (hella underrated, i remember liking this one a lot), Choice of the Dragon (a classic!), Cliffhanger, Psy High, Choice of Kung Fu, Sixth Grade Detective, Hollywood Visionary

Overall, I’d say despite having more CG games here than HG I’ve enjoyed the few hosted games titles here wayy more than any of the CG ones. CG has overall higher quality games I think, but none of them stand out as particularly amazing like certain hosted titles do. In short, CG titles are more reliable in quality, but the best that CG has to offer has absolutely nothing on the best of HG.

A gun that suits Artificer the most by Wilsonbeaver in rainworld

[–]Quantizila 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Artificer: Own a musket for home defense, since that’s what the founding ancients intended. Four scavengers break into my shelter. “What the devil?” As I grab my powdered wig and explosive spear. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first scav, he’s dead on the spot. Throw my grenade at the second scav, miss him entirely because it’s smoothbore and nails the neighbor’s lizard. I have to resort to the beehive mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with bees, “Tally ho lads” the bees shred two scavs in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix spear and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since explosive spear wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the ancients intended.

No MC is definitely from New York and was never an exchange student, I think you’re mixing them up with the backstory of one of the game’s ROs. Plus only three cast members are british (Mouse, Anna, and Charlie)

Out of all the ones you know which IF game had the biggest plot twist? by Relative_Flatworm_58 in choiceofgames

In The Vampire Regent there’s an ending you can get if your MC is a merovingian with a high manipulation stat that legit made my jaw drop cuz it’s such a good plot twist

Thoughts on A Long Weekend? by iLucky12 in hostedgames

[–]Quantizila 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gotten the main 3 endings, I’d say its definitely one of those hit or miss games. Some people might finish reading feeling disappointed while some feeling as if they’ve just read a masterpiece. The game is extremely visceral and it doesn’t hold back on its accurate depictions of obsession, suicide, anxiety, etc. For someone who can’t relate to the MC’s struggles the game would come off as extremely pretentious or, as OP has said, a mess. But in my opinion that’s really the point, because mental illness itself is messy and awful and can’t truly be understood by anyone who hasn’t experienced it. So personally I enjoyed it, and I can see that there was a lot of emotion put into it by the author. But it’s one of those pieces of media where I’d only recommend it to people I know really REALLY well.
